One of the most rewarding moments of the year is getting to share this news.

Watch the moment Dr. Jason Lake surprised Dr. Alelujah Ramirez and Dr. Jessi Sampson with the news that they had been selected as the 2026 recipients of the Golden Opportunity Award.

Now in its third year, the Golden Opportunity Award honors the legacy of Dr. David Golden by investing in emerging independent practice owners who are committed to expanding access to eye care.

"This is one of the highlights of my year," said Dr. Jason Lake, General Manager of PERC Alliance. "Having the opportunity to surprise these doctors and tell them they've been selected is incredibly rewarding. It's a privilege to continue Dr. Golden's legacy by supporting optometrists who are turning their vision into reality and creating meaningful impact in the communities they serve."

Congratulations to the 2026 Golden Opportunity Award recipients, Dr. Alelujah Ramirez of Houston, TX, and Dr. Jessi Sampson of Sutton, WV!

The recipients were announced during Optometry's Meeting® & AOA+ in Phoenix, Arizona, where they were recognized for their commitment to independent practice ownership and expanding access to quality eye care in underserved communities.

Dr. Ramirez is launching Iris Eye Care & Eyewear, a bilingual, community-focused practice in Houston designed to help break down language, access, and continuity-of-care barriers.

"This award means more to me than I can fully express. It validates a vision I have carried since optometry school and gives me the confidence to build something lasting for my patients and my community."

Dr. Sampson is returning to her rural West Virginia hometown to establish an independent practice in an underserved Appalachian community, helping bring quality vision care closer to home.

"This award is a meaningful affirmation of the impact independent practice can have on expanding access to care. I am excited for the opportunity to serve my community for years to come."

Elevate Reception + Golden Opportunity Award

One of the moments many look forward to at Elevate is the Elevate Reception. It is a chance to step away from the sessions, connect, and enjoy the experience together.

This year, the reception took place at the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame, bringing the Here to Win energy to life in a memorable setting.

Each spring, the reception also serves a larger purpose. It is where we host our fundraiser benefiting the Golden Opportunity Award, a program that provides funding to emerging optometrists as they take the first step toward practice ownership.

Led by auctioneer Dr. Jason Lake, this year’s live auction and silent raffle brought incredible energy to the room and raised nearly $40,000.

What makes this moment stand out each year is the generosity behind it. Members and partners show up not just to grow their own businesses, but to invest in the future of the profession. It is a powerful reflection of what this community represents.

Last week in Kansas City, members of PERC Pinnacle Practices (P3), Opti-Port Presidents’ Alliance, MD/OD and OMG Study Groups, and the Champions Study Group came together for Elevate.

While each group is distinct, they share the same mindset: a commitment to growth, accountability, and building stronger businesses.
