Our “Adventure by Waltonwood” series continues! We were so excited to bring Independent Living resident Mary Alice’s dream of “A Day in the D” to life! Mary Alice grew up in the Detroit area and she had such fond memories there. For her adventure she wanted to relive those wonderful days. Her dad had worked downtown and they had a family cottage on the Detroit River. She wanted to see the new Riverwalk, ride the People Mover (for the first time!) visit St. Aloysius Church, and see the Kern Clock, which was a popular meeting spot during her time in the city.
Life Enrichment Manager Rene partnered with Robin Whitelaw from “That’s the Plan” tours who specializes in senior audiences and together with our Driver, Oliver, gave Mary Alice a memorable downtown experience!

🎨✨ Our residents recently enjoyed a wonderful Minds on Art experience in partnership with the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) and the Alzheimer's Association Michigan Chapter.

This unique virtual program is designed for individuals in the early and mid-stages of Alzheimer's disease to create meaningful connections and experiences through the power of art. During the session, residents explored several galleries, shared their thoughts and interpretations, and then created their own beautiful works of art inspired by what they had seen.

Art has an amazing way of sparking conversation, creativity, and connection, and we are grateful for opportunities like these that enrich the lives of our residents. 🎨💙

Happy 105th birthday to our glamorous and gorgeous Independent Living resident, Jean! Jean’s wishes on how to celebrate her birthday were sweet and simple…lunch with two of her best friends at one of her favorite restaurants, Aspen. She was so excited to be indulged by the restaurant with a delicious birthday hot fudge sundae. Our pastry chef Nicki decorated a lovely cake in her honor as well. It was a beautiful day to celebrate a beautiful lady! 🎂💐

🍔✨ Our Chef Slider Demo was a delicious success yesterday! ✨🍔

A big thank you to Chef Nick, Chef Craig, and Dining Room Manager Krystal for putting together such a fun and flavorful experience for our residents and guests.

The sliders were paired perfectly with crispy fries topped with garlic aioli and parmesan, along with refreshing fresh lemonade and water. 😋

Great food, wonderful company, and lots of smiles made for an amazing event at Waltonwood Lakeside!

Congratulations to our Independent Living Associate of the Month for May, Nina! Nehrain “Nina” is a new addition to Waltonwood. Nina joined us last November and has already proven to be a hard worker with a great work ethic. She is observant and jumps in where she is needed, asking if she can take care of issues that she has seen. Nina has been an outstanding addition to the Environmental Services team as a Housekeeper. She tries to get in front of potential problems and resolve them before they arise and has been truly exemplary in the way she goes above and beyond. Thank you, Nina!

Chef Nick fired up the grill and served delicious brats and hot dogs for everyone to enjoy as we came together to celebrate the holiday.
