Navasha and Darling Haga have recently lost their sponsorships and are now in urgent need of new sponsors.
These two sisters are both bilaterally Deaf and are thriving at school. Today, they are wonderful dancers, active participants in theater, and love playing sports such as soccer and netball. They are kind, joyful girls who work hard academically and are making the most of every opportunity education provides.
Their story, however, did not begin this way. Because of social stigma surrounding disability and tribal beliefs about Deafness, Navasha and Darling spent their early years being taken from place to place for prayers in hopes that they would be healed. As a result, they missed out on crucial early educational opportunities.
When they finally came to school, they were behind their peers academically. But through determination, support, and access to education in a language they could understand, these girls have worked incredibly hard to catch up. Today, they are succeeding in the classroom and fully participating in school life.
A sponsor for either girl—or both sisters—would help ensure they can continue receiving the education, support, and opportunities they deserve. Their progress is a beautiful reminder of what can happen when Deaf children are given access to education and the chance to reach their full potential.
We would love to see Navasha and Darling matched with sponsors who will walk alongside them as they continue to grow and succeed.
We’ll be sharing more of our students who are waiting for sponsorship throughout the week. Please help us spread the word and consider becoming part of a child’s story today. www.heartsthathear.org
