Meet Ava Indigo
Current occupation: Ankle Biter
Future goal: Therapy Dog

Ava joined the Solace/Trost family this past weekend and has started the very early stages of therapy dog training. We’re excited to introduce her to the world and our clients, but therapy dog work involves much more than bringing a cute puppy into the office. For the next six months to a year, Ava will be working on staying calm, sitting quietly, respecting boundaries, and comforting others without becoming overwhelmed herself.

Ava won’t be in the office regularly until she’s got those things down, but you may occasionally see tiny guest appearances while she learns the ropes. She’s a quick study. At eight weeks old, she’s got potty training down and yesterday learned come and sit.

What kind of dog is Ava? We have no idea. Her foster’s best guess at is Shih Tzu and Border Collie. I’m guessing there’s some Jack Russell terrier in there. A DNA test is on the way, so until then:

Drop your breed guesses in the comments.

Whoever guesses the closest wins special Zen the Therapy cat and Ava the Therapy dog merch.

Ziggy, our very own live Kit Cat clock. Ziggy is a member of the Solace/Trost family however he’s not an office therapy cat. He’s way more of an introvert and loves hanging out at home.

Tonight we celebrate our intern, Jenny Liu’s last day at Solace and graduation from HBU’s Counseling Program. Next stop -her own private practice just down the road! It’s been an honor to be a part of your journey, Jenny! We are so proud of you and excited to see you continue to succeed and grow. You’ve been a blessing to your clients and a valuable member of our team here. Love, Amanda, Jared, the cats and the rest of the solace team.

Ever wonder what it’s like to sit here?

For some, this space is already familiar. For others, it’s still just an idea.

Either way—this room holds a lot of real conversations… and a cat 🐾

If you’ve been thinking about starting (or returning), you can book with us online at solacecounselingandcoaching.com or give us a call at 346–901–0709

Apparently we’ve been reclassified as a coffee shop. These are the ads coming across my feed.
We are still a therapy practice… but we do serve a mean espresso and take cozy, calm, and comfortable pretty seriously.

Sometimes your nervous system just needs a space where it can settle before anything else.

The best advice I was ever given as a teacher: set them up for success.

That gets a lot harder when you’re parenting while working through your own trauma.

We default to what we know, which might be yelling, shutting down, or trying to control things. Not because we want to, but because it’s what our nervous system learned.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s interruption.
Pause, regulate, and shift from correcting → coaching.

If this feels familiar, you’re not alone. We get it, and we can help.

Tomorrow is Monday (or Thursday)… but I don’t care.”

Zora really said: responsibilities? never heard of them.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are bracing for the days ahead, running through to-do lists, conversations, all the things we should be doing.

And she’s just… here.
Playing. Existing. Completely unbothered.

Not because life is perfect—but because her brain isn’t trying to solve everything all at once.

There’s something gentle in that.

You don’t have to carry the whole week today.
Sometimes it’s enough to have a small moment on the couch and let that be it.
