I have a new neighbor! Welcome to Sybertsville, The Balanced Bite!

We just wanted to let everyone know that The Balanced Bite restaurant is now open!! Stop on in and say Hi!! Welcome them to the valley and check out there awesome healthy options for dinner!! They have many fantastic dishes that are not only fantastic but super healthy for you!! What else can you ask for?? Yummy food that’s delicious and you don’t even have to be ashamed of it!! Dear Parents, Guardians, and Families of Conyngham Borough,

We care deeply about the safety and well-being of every child, teenager, and adult in our community. In that spirit, we are reaching out today with important information regarding e-bike ownership and operation. Our goal is not to discourage fun or outdoor activity, but to help prevent tragedies that no family should ever have to endure.

Under Pennsylvania law, the minimum age to operate an e-bike is 16 years old (75 Pa.C.S. § 3514). This requirement exists for a reason: e-bikes can reach significant speeds and share the road with vehicles. We will be enforcing this age limit to protect our young riders and all motorists in our borough.

Additional important rules include:
• Passengers are only permitted if they are seated on a proper seat designed for the bike. Both the operator and any passenger must have their own designated seat. Riding on foot pegs, handlebars, or the frame is prohibited (75 Pa.C.S. § 3504).
• Helmets are required by law for riders 12 years of age and younger (75 Pa.C.S. § 3510). While the helmet requirement for older riders is not mandatory under this statute, we strongly encourage all e-bike riders — regardless of age — to wear properly fitted helmets and other appropriate safety gear.
• E-bike operators, including underage operators, can be cited for standard traffic violations such as failing to stop at signals, riding against traffic, improper turns, operating without lights at night, or driving in a careless or reckless manner that endangers others.

Parents and guardians, please know that you can also be held responsible under Pennsylvania law (75 Pa.C.S. § 3503) if you knowingly permit a violation of these rules.

We understand that these regulations may feel restrictive to some families who are excited about e-bikes. However, we have seen the devastating impact that preventable accidents can have on a community. As a police department, the last thing we ever want to do is knock on a parent’s door to deliver life-altering news that could have been avoided.

We ask for your partnership. Talk with your children about these laws. Set clear expectations. Model safe riding habits. By working together, we can enjoy the benefits of e-bikes while keeping our kids and neighbors safe.

Happy Sunday, from Strider!

On Sunday Strider, his sister Adalie and I went to a scent work “shed mania”. Both of the dogs sniffed for certain scents that were hidden in a series of sheds, which we searched. You have a specific amount of time to find the “hides” or hidden scents. Both did really well and found all of the hides! Since this is for practice, like a mock meet, no places are awarded.
