When you’ve spent years feeling like hunger is the thing standing between you and weight loss, having very little appetite can feel like a win.

But I don’t want the medication to make eating impossible. I want it to make eating feel more manageable.

If you’re routinely skipping meals because you forget to eat, struggling to get enough protein, feeling weak or lightheaded, or realizing at the end of the day that you’ve barely nourished yourself, that’s something I want to know.

The goal of medical weight loss isn’t to see how little food you can survive on. It’s to help you lose weight while still supporting your body, your energy, and your health.

If your appetite suppression feels like it may be a little too effective, we can talk about it. Sometimes the treatment plan needs adjusting, and that’s part of good medical care too.

I never want you to leave an appointment knowing only what you were prescribed. I want you to understand why.

Why this medication? Why this dose? What are we hoping it improves? What side effects should you watch for? How will we know if it’s working? And what would make us choose a different direction?

Those are not “difficult patient” questions. They’re good questions.

Whether we’re talking about medical weight loss, hormone health, fatigue, hair loss, or something else entirely, my job isn’t simply to hand you a treatment plan. It’s to help you understand your health well enough to be part of the decisions we make about it.

So please ask me why. Ask follow-up questions. Tell me what worries you.

There should always be room for that conversation here.

When you’re frustrated with your weight, it’s easy to think the answer must be the medication that suppresses your appetite the most.

But “stronger” doesn’t necessarily mean better for your body.

Maybe you already struggle with anxiety or sleep. Maybe your blood pressure or heart rate runs higher than we’d like. Maybe you tried an appetite suppressant before and hated how jittery, restless, or unlike yourself you felt.

Those things matter.

Choosing a weight-loss medication isn’t about finding the one that makes you eat the least. It’s about finding an option that fits your health history, your symptoms, your other medications, and your actual life.

You shouldn’t have to white-knuckle your way through side effects just because you want help losing weight.

There are options. And figuring out which one makes sense for you is exactly what a medical weight-loss conversation is for.

If you’ve ever said, “I tried metformin once. Never again,” I understand why. When a medication leaves you nauseated, running to the bathroom, or dealing with stomach upset every day, you’re probably not interested in being told to just push through it.

But your first experience with metformin may not be the end of the conversation.

Dose matters. Timing matters. The formulation can matter. And how quickly the medication was increased can make a significant difference in how well some people tolerate it.

That doesn’t mean every person should try metformin again. It means side effects deserve more than a shrug.

If metformin could be useful for your insulin resistance, blood sugar, PMOS, or metabolic health but you stopped because you felt miserable, we can talk through what happened and whether there’s a better approach for you.

It’s completely understandable to want something that gives your weight-loss efforts a little extra support. But I also want you to know what that support can realistically do.

MICC injections may have a place in a medical weight-management plan for some people. What I don’t want is for anyone to walk away believing an injection is supposed to compensate for barely eating, poor sleep, inadequate protein, or a lifestyle that simply isn’t sustainable.

And this isn’t about perfection. You do not need perfect meals, perfect workouts, and eight perfect hours of sleep every night.

It’s about building a plan where each piece has a reasonable job to do.

If you’re wondering whether MICC injections are actually worth adding to your weight-loss plan, that’s a conversation we can have. We can look at what you’re already doing, what you’re struggling with, and whether adding something makes sense for you.

A low testosterone result can feel like an answer, especially when you’ve already been wondering why you’re exhausted, losing strength, struggling with motivation, noticing changes in sexual function, or simply not feeling like yourself.

But I don’t want to treat a number without understanding the person attached to it.

Testosterone levels can be influenced by when the lab was drawn, medications, sleep, weight, other health conditions, and more. Sometimes testing needs to be repeated. Sometimes the symptoms point us toward something else. And sometimes, after a thorough evaluation, testosterone therapy may be an appropriate conversation.

The goal is not to get your testosterone as high as possible. It’s to understand why you feel different and decide what actually makes sense for your health.

If you’ve been staring at a lab result wondering what you’re supposed to do with it, that’s exactly the kind of conversation worth having.

Being tired is one thing. Feeling like you’re dragging yourself through every day is another.

Maybe you’re sleeping and still waking up exhausted. Your brain feels foggy. Your body feels weaker than it should. Or you’ve noticed strange things like tingling or numbness and haven’t connected the dots.

B12 deficiency can cause fatigue, but simply adding a B12 shot isn’t always the whole answer. I also want to understand why your level is low in the first place. Sometimes it’s nutrition. Sometimes it’s absorption, a medication, or an underlying GI issue.

You deserve more than a quick fix for “low energy.” You deserve to understand what your body is trying to tell you.

If exhaustion has become your normal, it may be time for a conversation about what’s underneath it.

There’s a frustrating stage of recovery where the test says negative, but your body definitely hasn’t gotten the memo.

You’re still exhausted. The cough is hanging on. Your head hurts. Food tastes strange. You try to exercise and realize your stamina is nowhere near normal. And after a while, you start wondering, “Shouldn’t I be better by now?”

A negative COVID test tells us something important, but it doesn’t tell us that every system in your body has fully recovered.

Give your body some grace, but also pay attention to what it’s telling you. If symptoms are lingering, getting worse, or your recovery simply doesn’t feel right, that’s worth talking about. You don’t have to wait until something becomes severe to have a conversation about it.

Sometimes the next step is simply figuring out what your body needs to recover well.

There are a lot of theories floating around about why men lose their hair, and “too much testosterone” is one of the big ones.

The reality is a little more complicated.

Male pattern hair loss has a lot to do with genetics and how sensitive your hair follicles are to DHT, a hormone made from testosterone. That’s why one man can have a full head of hair and another can watch his hairline slowly retreat even when their testosterone levels are similar.

And if you’re noticing more scalp in photos, a widening part, thinning at the crown, or a hairline that definitely wasn’t there five years ago, you’re not being vain for caring about it.

Hair loss can affect how you feel when you look in the mirror. It’s also something we can actually talk about medically.

You don’t have to diagnose yourself from the shower drain or accept every piece of locker-room science you hear. There are real explanations and treatment options worth discussing.

It’s easy to feel like medical weight loss has become synonymous with GLP-1s. And if injections aren’t something you want, can’t tolerate, aren’t appropriate for you, or simply aren’t where you want to start, you may assume there aren’t many other options.

There are.

Contrave is an oral prescription weight-loss medication that works differently than GLP-1 medications. Whether it makes sense for you depends on much more than how much weight you want to lose. Your health history, current medications, cravings and eating patterns, previous weight-loss attempts, and potential contraindications all belong in that conversation.

You don’t need to walk into an appointment already knowing which medication you want.

That’s actually what the appointment is for. We can talk through the options, what fits your health, and what you feel comfortable with.

There may be more paths forward than you realize.
