So, you’re interested in an education to pursue becoming a Patient Care Technician? 👇

1️⃣ What are some of the duties of a Patient Care Technician?
- Some of the duties that may be expected include:
💙 Helping patients with mobility issues get into wheelchairs.
💙 Helping patients in and out of bed.
💙 Assisting patients during exercise.
💙 Listening to and taking note of patient concerns.
💙 Checking vital signs and collecting samples, such as blood or urine.
💙 Delivering samples to the appropriate laboratory.
💙 Acting as a companion for patients and providing comfort.
💙 Offering support to patients and their families during stressful or emotional times.

2️⃣ Where do Patient Care Technicians typically work?
- They may work in hospitals, nursing homes, ambulatory health care services, residential care facilities and home healthcare services. They may work in different environments depending on their specialty.

3️⃣ What education and training are required to become a Patient Care Technician?
- Some states require professionals in this type of role to be licensed and/or certified; as such, it’s important to research the requirements for your specific state before you determine whether you will seek out a training program and/or attempt licensure or certification.
- For example, in Florida, many employers expect patient care technicians to have the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential. Those who wish to enter the field may consider pursuing a diploma or an associate degree to prepare; in either case, if they seek training before entering the field, they may want to choose a program that will prepare them for the state’s CNA exam.
- A diploma program can typically be completed in 12 months, (completion times can vary depending on the individual student).
