Can your own blood play a role in TMJ Treatment?

PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) is made from a small sample of your own blood. Through processing, a fibrin-rich material containing platelets and signaling proteins is prepared for use in treatment.

For certain TMJ conditions, PRF may be considered as part of an individualized treatment plan. Every case is different, and PRF does not guarantee healing or symptom relief.

In this series, we’ll explore how PRF works, how it’s used for TMJ, and what patients should realistically expect.

Your jaw is part of a larger system.

Neck muscle tension, posture, and movement patterns may play a role in jaw function for some individuals. This doesn’t mean neck tension is the cause of every TMJ symptom - but it can be one factor worth considering.

Because TMJ symptoms can have multiple contributing factors, individualized evaluation matters.

What could your jaw possibly have to do with your pelvic floor?

Your jaw and pelvic floor may seem completely unrelated, but they are both part of your body’s larger network of muscles, nerves, posture, breathing, and movement patterns.

In some people, tension or changes in one area may be associated with tension, muscle guarding, or dysfunction elsewhere in the body. However, this relationship is complex and does not mean that pelvic floor dysfunction causes TMJ problems or that TMJ dysfunction causes pelvic floor problems in every individual.

Factors such as posture, breathing patterns, stress, muscle tension, and overall movement may all play a role and can vary significantly from person to person.

If you experience jaw tension along with other muscle- or movement-related symptoms, a comprehensive evaluation may help identify possible contributing factors and determine the most appropriate approach for you.

Every body is different, and your symptoms deserve an individualized approach.

The Science Behind Facial Muscle Tension

Facial muscles do much more than help you chew and speak - they also play an important role in how your jaw functions.

When these muscles become tense or overworked, they may contribute to jaw discomfort, headaches, facial pain, or limited jaw movement in some individuals.

Facial muscle tension does not always mean TMJ dysfunction, but it can be one of several factors considered during a comprehensive TMJ evaluation.

Understanding the underlying cause is an important step in determining the most appropriate treatment approach.
