Repeat after me:
If it was a true emergency, I wouldn't have time to be ruminating about it. The fact that I'm in my head shows me that even if my system doesn't believe it yet - I am safe right now.

🗣️Here’s the most unpopular thing I do to protect my peace in my personal life 🌊

Cecilia - LMFT here. There is a massive difference between a relationship that is actually peaceful and one where people are just quiet.

For years, mine were just quiet. I had a running list of things that bothered me in my relationships, but I convinced myself none of them were worth bringing up. I told myself I was being a peacemaker. Easy going. Understanding.

In reality, I was avoiding discomfort.

The problem is that when you spend years pretending you aren’t bothered, you don’t become less bothered. You become resentful. Bitter. Offended.

You swallow the offense from something that happened in your marriage in 2003 because you don’t want to drag up the past. You stay quiet when a friendship feels one-sided because you don’t want to seem needy. You view authority skeptically because you were burned by an experience that left you jaded. You avoid eye-contact with someone who once was a friend because gossip tainted your view of them. Or you smile through interactions that leave you frustrated, hurt and empty because you convinced yourself that speaking up would be selfish or “not worth it”.

If we’re bone-deep honest with ourselves, some of us keep returning to what’s offended us as we don’t know who we are without it.

Regardless, it’s a weight too many of us are low-key carrying on repeat.🔁

What I’ve learned the hard way is that resentment doesn’t disappear when it’s ignored. It collects interest. It shows up in your marriage, your parenting, your friendships, your work, and your mental health. It changes the way you see people. You keep score instead of extending grace. It changes the way you show up in every room you walk into.

Eventually, the peace I thought I was protecting started costing me too much. Fed up… I had to ask the hard question: what role am I playing in my own suffering?

The sobering truth was unsettling. My silence was protecting my fear: fear of conflict, rejection, being misunderstood, being the bad guy….

(Let’s be clear - this question I asked myself wasn’t about excusing what others had done. It was about being honest about what my silence was costing me.)

So I called myself out and called myself forward… and had some difficult conversations. Not to win. Not to accuse. Not to create drama. But to free myself from offense with truth and transparency.

So I gave myself 3 rules: come in gentle, speak the truth, and do it face-to-face.

Those conversations sounded like…
• It hurt me when you did…. And I’ve been holding it against you for some time…I’m sorry
• This relationship feels one-sided……
• I forgive you….
• I will no longer……

And guess what?
My worst fears came to life. 😬 Wild right?
I was misunderstood. I was painted as the villain in stories I wasn’t around to tell. I lost friendships. There were moments when staying quiet felt like it would have been easier.

But guess what else happened?
My circle got smaller, but it got infinitely stronger.
My marriage is peaceful.
My friendships are genuine and a two-way street.
I quit tripping over what was behind me.
I stopped keeping score.
I take up space in rooms I only shrank in before.
I no longer have 739 tabs open in my head.
My mind and soul are aligned with my values.
Also, I found myself having more time on my hands for the things that matter.

You see, those conversations were not for anyone else. And they weren’t about pretending I hadn’t been wronged. It was about freeing myself from the offenses that had built a prison inside of me.

Humility + honesty in conversations have a way of shedding offenses. That’s a principle.

And here’s the undeniable truth: every relationship has a price tag. You either pay the price of an uncomfortable conversation, or you pay the price of resentment. One costs you a moment. The other costs you your peace. The choice is yours. It always has been.

Either have the difficult conversations or live with difficult feelings.

We say this on repeat: in our offices, to our people, to ourselves.

There’s a deeper layer to this that I’ve been building the courage to share on this platform. A post sitting in my drafts. A truth that costs something to say out loud.

But at our core, we don’t gate keep around here. Having the difficult conversations is a practice that has healed parts of me. I’ve watched it heal others in real time. It’s too good (and too freeing) to keep to ourselves.

My raw, unfiltered thoughts are coming soon…

Here’s your gentle reminder:

You’re allowed to articulate your needs and wants without packaging them as jokes, hints, or last resorts. This is an opportunity to take up space and say the thing. 🤍

🤯As a local private practice, it’s wild for us to hear our clients say that we do things differently around here.

🔁Here are some compliments we get on repeat:🔁

👉🏼 “I’ve worked with other professionals who answer emails, texts and phone calls in the middle of me talking about something painful. That has never happened here. Thank you!”

👉🏼 “I can actually open up without spending the whole session feeling judged or you talking about yourself the whole hour… that’s happened before.”

👉🏼 “For the first time, I don’t feel like I’m paying for a professional nodder or someone who just tells me what I want to hear. You give me feedback that’s real, practical and something I can actually use in my life.”

👉🏼 “You genuinely want to see me grow.”

It’s not about the credentials or expertise, but about the real conversations and honest feedback. A space where you can laugh, cry, call yourself out, and be called forward.

If this resonates, we’re your people. Call us today to schedule your initial appointment. 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽

One of the biggest conversations right now? Teaching teens how to navigate AI.

AI is everywhere. It can answer questions, give advice, even “understand” feelings. But it’s still not human connection. It can’t truly know your teen, challenge them with care, or sit in the hard moments with them.

So here are a few conversations parents can have with their teens about AI:
➡️ AI tells them what they want to hear. That’s flattering, but real growth happens from honesty and accountability from safe people.
➡️ Critical thinking is a skill. Encourage your teen to question answers (in a respectful way), weigh perspectives, and rely on face-to-face interactions for guidance. Not just algorithms.
➡️ Healthy boundaries with tech. AI is a tool, not a therapist, coach, teacher or parent. Real human connection is irreplaceable.

If I’m being wholeheartedly honest here, they follow your lead. If you have healthy boundaries with AI, they will follow suit.

The bottom line is AI might be convenient, but growth, empathy, resilience, and self-awareness comes from human connection. The kind only parents and real people can provide.🌊
