One of the biggest conversations right now? Teaching teens how to navigate AI.
AI is everywhere. It can answer questions, give advice, even “understand” feelings. But it’s still not human connection. It can’t truly know your teen, challenge them with care, or sit in the hard moments with them.
So here are a few conversations parents can have with their teens about AI:
➡️ AI tells them what they want to hear. That’s flattering, but real growth happens from honesty and accountability from safe people.
➡️ Critical thinking is a skill. Encourage your teen to question answers (in a respectful way), weigh perspectives, and rely on face-to-face interactions for guidance. Not just algorithms.
➡️ Healthy boundaries with tech. AI is a tool, not a therapist, coach, teacher or parent. Real human connection is irreplaceable.
If I’m being wholeheartedly honest here, they follow your lead. If you have healthy boundaries with AI, they will follow suit.
The bottom line is AI might be convenient, but growth, empathy, resilience, and self-awareness comes from human connection. The kind only parents and real people can provide.🌊
