We are not here to take all the fun out of Halloween. We just do not want your brackets taking a portion of every treat. 🎃

Soft chocolate, peanut butter cups, and soft cookies are generally easier on braces. Hard, sticky, and extra-chewy candy can pull on brackets, bend wires, or leave you needing an unexpected repair.

Enjoy your favorites, avoid biting into anything hard, and give your teeth a good brushing when the candy break is over.

Parents usually notice the front teeth first.

Sometimes the right orthodontic decision is to wait.

But there is an important difference between waiting and doing nothing.

Your child’s treatment may depend on more jaw growth, the arrival of certain permanent teeth, or reaching a stage when treatment can accomplish what we need it to accomplish. Beginning too early does not automatically create a better result.

When we recommend monitoring your child’s development, there should still be a reason, a plan, and a time to reassess.

That is what thoughtful orthodontic timing looks like. We begin treatment when it can provide a meaningful benefit for your child, not simply because a certain birthday has passed.

“It was only a baby tooth” sounds reasonable. After all, another tooth is supposed to replace it.

But baby teeth have an important job while they are there. They help preserve the space that permanent teeth will eventually need.

When a baby tooth is lost earlier than expected, the surrounding teeth may begin moving into that opening. This can reduce the amount of room available for the permanent tooth developing underneath.

That does not mean every early tooth loss needs orthodontic treatment. It does mean we may want to evaluate the space and keep an eye on it as your child grows.

If your child lost a baby tooth early and you are wondering whether it could affect the permanent teeth, we would be happy to take a look.
