It’s not just about how clearly you see — it’s about how well you can see contrast.

As we age, it becomes harder to distinguish objects like pedestrians or road signs against darker backgrounds. That’s why night driving can feel more difficult, even if your vision seems “fine.”

In many cases, reduced contrast sensitivity plays a bigger role than blurry vision — making subtle details blend into the environment and slowing reaction time.
