Why is visual midline crossing important? 👀∞
Visual midline crossing is the ability for the eyes to smoothly move across the center of the visual field without losing focus, skipping information, or needing to turn the head. This skill is essential and plays a major role in everyday tasks such as reading, writing, copying from the board, scanning a page, and participating in sports.
The infinity loop is one of my favorite ways to work on this skill because it encourages the eyes to continuously cross the visual midline while maintaining smooth, coordinated movements! When completed with a laser, it provides immediate visual feedback and helps strengthen visual tracking, eye teaming, attention, and visual-motor integration.
When visual midline crossing is not efficient, children may:
🔹 Lose their place while reading
🔹 Skip words or letters on a page
🔹 Have difficulty copying information
🔹 Turn their head instead of moving their eyes
🔹 Become fatigued during visual tasks
🔹 Struggle with scanning and tracking activities
By practicing smooth, controlled eye movements across midline, we’re helping build the foundation for more efficient visual skills needed for learning and everyday function. And it’s more fun!
The goal isn’t just tracing the infinity loop—it’s training the eyes and brain to work together more efficiently! ✨
