5 Mental Health Tips to Help You Get Through the Day

1. Focus on the Next Small Step
You do not have to solve the entire day at once. Focus on what needs your attention right now.

2. Give Yourself a Real Break
Step away from your phone, computer, or responsibilities for a few minutes and let your mind reset.

3. Move Your Body
A short walk, a few stretches, or even a few minutes outside can help release tension and clear your head.

4. Check In With Yourself
Ask, “What do I need right now?” It might be food, water, rest, connection, quiet, or support.

5. Reach Out Instead of Withdrawing
Send a text, make a call, or talk with someone you trust. You do not have to carry a difficult day by yourself.

As students return to the classroom, teachers, counselors, and school staff are often among the first to notice when something feels different.

• A student who suddenly withdraws.
• A decline in academic performance.
• Changes in mood or behavior.
• Difficulty concentrating.

These signs aren't always signs of defiance—they may be signs that a student is struggling.

Early conversations, compassionate support, and timely referrals can make a lasting difference.

At River's Bend, we're proud to partner with schools to help students and families access the care they need.

When a student's behavior changes, compassionate attention can make a lasting difference. Learn how River's Bend supports students, families, and school communities.

Workplaces play an important role in mental wellness.
Employees don't expect managers to be therapists.
They do hope they'll be leaders who create psychologically safe environments where people feel comfortable asking for support when they need it.
Simple actions make a difference:
✔ Encourage healthy work-life boundaries.
✔ Normalize taking breaks.
✔ Check in regularly—not just about performance, but about well-being.
✔ Remind employees of available mental health resources.
A culture of support benefits everyone.
When employees feel valued, they are more engaged, more resilient, and better equipped to navigate life's challenges.

What is one change your workplace could make to better support employee well-being? Start the conversation with your team.

Supporting someone isn't about solving their problems.
It's about creating a safe space where they feel heard.

Support can sound like:
• "I'm here if you want to talk."
• "That sounds really difficult."
• "How can I support you today?"
• "You don't have to go through this alone."

Sometimes we rush to offer advice when what people need most is compassion.
Listening without judgment is one of the most powerful gifts we can give another person.

Save this post for the next time someone opens up to you, and share it with someone who believes compassionate listening matters.

You Don't Have to Have the Right Words 🤍

You don't need all the answers to support someone struggling with their mental health. You just need to show up.

You don't have to fix their pain, just let them know they don't have to carry it alone. A quick text, a phone call, or a walk together can make all the difference.

Who comes to mind right now? Send them a quick text today to let them know you're thinking of them.

Some partnerships work because two people think alike. Others work because they couldn’t be more different. 💙

For more than 25 years, Stephanie and Bruce have worked side by side building River’s Bend—all while raising families, navigating change, and sharing a commitment to making exceptional behavioral healthcare available to the people of Michigan.

Bruce could spend all day at a professional partner event, community gathering, or speaking engagement talking with people about something he deeply believes: healing happens in connection.

Stephanie? She’d much rather be back at River’s Bend with her teams—planning, improving, solving problems, and thinking through every detail that can make the client experience even better.

Stephanie hates events. Bruce hates spreadsheets. 😄

And somehow, that’s part of what makes it work.

For more than two decades, their very different strengths have complemented one another—Bruce building connections beyond our walls and Stephanie continually strengthening what happens within them.

Together, they have helped make River’s Bend a special place: a behavioral healthcare practice rooted in relationships, exceptional care, and specialized programs designed to serve the diverse people and communities that make Michigan home.

As summer comes to a close, Bruce and Stephanie have been hard at work continuing to build, improve, and expand access to care. We’re grateful for everything they’ve built—and even more excited to see what comes next this fall.

Here’s to 25+ years of partnership, a little yin and yang, and a shared belief that there is always more we can do for the people we serve. 💙

✨ Our River’s Bend Troy expansion is complete—and it’s beautiful!

With additional offices and welcoming spaces for our therapists to spend time with clients, along with a bright new group room where people can come together, connect, and heal, every part of the expansion was designed with the client experience in mind.

A special thank you to Amy Buchanan for managing this impressive undertaking and bringing so many moving pieces together.

And, as always, River’s Bend co-owner Stephanie Howey brought her special touch to the design, working alongside Clinical Director Amy Fresch to create a space that is bright, beautiful, and flows naturally for the clients and clinicians who use it every day.

Amy, Stephanie, and Amy truly are the beating heart of River’s Bend Troy. 💙 Their care for our clients, our team, and this organization can be felt throughout the new space.

And be sure to make it to the last photo. 😉 Because while these three take the work they do very seriously, they have a whole lot of fun doing it together. We think that joy is part of what makes River’s Bend such a special place.

We can’t wait to see the connection, conversations, and healing that happen here.

We loved spending the day at the Livonia Transmission Ford Health Fair!

River’s Bend is proud to have been a professional partner of the UAW for many years, and we appreciate the meaningful ways they continue to support the health and well-being of their members. Events like this make valuable resources more accessible while strengthening the connections that help build healthier communities.

Thank you to the UAW and everyone who stopped by the River’s Bend booth to connect with us! 💙
