In this episode, we dive into one of the biggest problems in the rehab and fitness world right now with from : too many professionals competing with each other instead of collaborating for the patient.

We also talk honestly about the role physical therapists themselves sometimes play in that divide. Because while there are incredible clinicians in every field, there are also situations where professional ego and criticism get in the way of actually helping people. Fortunately, though, things are starting to shift.

More PTs, coaches, and practitioners are reaching out, asking questions, sharing ideas, and collaborating in ways that simply didn’t happen years ago, which is really cool and helps us focus on what matters most, which is helping our patients get better.

If you work in rehab, strength training, or healthcare, or you’ve ever felt confused navigating all the different opinions online, this episode is worth listening to.

One of the biggest mistakes in rehab is treating the image instead of treating the person.

I recently worked with someone who came in with right-sided hamstring pain that had already been treated unsuccessfully elsewhere. Naturally, everyone focused on strengthening because it “looked” like tendinopathy. But the interesting part is that the MRI actually showed hamstring tendinopathy and inflammation on the left side, the side that didn’t even hurt.

Meanwhile, the painful right side showed no major signs of tendinitis at all. That’s why assessment matters so much.

When we evaluated how the patient actually moved, we found restricted hamstring mobility, nerve irritation, and poor hip stability on the symptomatic side. Those were the real issues driving the pain.

So instead of just throwing more strengthening exercises at the problem, the focus became:

• Improving nerve mobility
• Building better hip stability and balance
• Restoring the foundations first

Rehab should always help us understand why the symptoms are happening in the first place.
