If you’ve experienced this particular brand of patient logic, you may be entitled to emotional compensation. 😂☕️

Dentists, tell me in the comments: what’s the best “patient logic” you’ve experienced?

I have a lot of ideas.

Like… a LOT. 😂

Things I want to create.
Things I want to teach.
Places I want to go.
People I want to help.
Projects I want to start.

And because I'm genuinely excited about them, my natural inclination is to want to do ALL of them.

Preferably now.

But I'm learning that just because something is a good idea doesn't mean it's mine to do right now.

Sometimes the harder work isn't figuring out what else I could do.

It's discerning what God is asking me to do in this season—and being willing to let the rest wait.

That's difficult for a creative person. Saying "not now" can feel like giving something up.

But I'm beginning to see it differently.

I don't have to do everything I'm capable of doing.

I want to be faithful to what I'm called to do now.

And maybe some of those other ideas aren't going anywhere. They'll simply be waiting for another season.

Anyone else have approximately 37 good ideas competing for your attention? 😂

Your body left the dental office.
Your brain? Not so much. 😆

Replaying that patient conversation.
Thinking about tomorrow’s schedule.
Worrying about the team issue.
Remembering the thing you forgot to do.

Send this to a dentist whose brain could use a closing time. 😆

We're getting close to Q4, which means we're about to enter the season of:

“I'll deal with that next year.” 😆

But you don't have to write off the rest of 2026.

And finishing strong doesn't have to mean working harder or cramming more into the next few months.

I've created a free Finish Strong Q4 Checklist for Dentists to help you head into the final quarter more intentionally.

Grab it here:

Two things can be true.

You can be grateful for the career you've built AND recognize that you don't want it consuming so much of your mental, physical, and emotional energy.

Send this to a dentist who might need the reminder today. ❤️

Dentists, save the date!

Mindfully Master Your Year is coming back!
Before you get swept into another year of patients, production goals, team needs, family commitments, and everything else competing for your attention… make space to decide what you want from the year ahead.

We’ll reflect on the year behind you, get clear on what matters most, and intentionally plan for a life and practice that support where you want to go next.

Choose ONE of three dates to join me:
December 28
January 8
January 12

Same workshop. Three opportunities to attend.

For now, pick your date and mark your calendar.

And if you’re not already on my email list, join it now so you don’t miss registration details when they drop!

In honor of Labor Day, let’s talk about something dentists are VERY good at:

Working. 😆

Have you ever had a productive day and still ended it feeling like you didn’t do enough?

One reason: many things on our to-do lists aren’t actually tasks.

They’re goals disguised as tasks.

❌ “Get caught up on charts.”
❌ “Figure out staffing.”
❌ “Plan my CE.”

There’s no finish line so your brain never gets the satisfaction of being DONE.

Try asking:

How will I know when this is complete?

“Plan my CE” becomes:
Choose the one course I’m taking this quarter.

That’s one small way mindful leadership shows up in dentistry.

It’s noticing when the way you’re working is creating unnecessary stress—and intentionally choosing a different way.

Because sometimes leadership looks like making a big decision.

And sometimes it looks like rewriting your to-do list.

Happy Labor Day. Here’s to letting DONE actually be done. 😉

P.S. And speaking of CE… if keeping track of your CE credits is one of those never-quite-done tasks, I can help with that. Grab my FREE Ultimate CE Tracker by clicking here. 👇

Our brains are remarkably good at noticing what's wrong.

What didn't get done.
What didn't go as planned.
What someone said that bothered us.
What we wish we had.
What we wish were different.

And if we're not intentional, those things can take up far more space than everything that's going right.

That's one reason I believe gratitude is such a powerful practice.
It doesn't mean ignoring what's difficult or pretending everything is wonderful.

It means remembering to notice what's good, too.
The people we love.
The opportunities we've been given.
The prayers that have been answered.
The ordinary moments we might someday realize weren't so ordinary after all.

This week, I want to practice seeing each day as a gift from God—not just being grateful for the big blessings, but getting better at noticing the small ones while they're happening.

What's something you're thanking God for today? 🙏

Maybe you need a change of scenery 🌴

There’s something about getting away from your normal environment that changes you a little.

You stop looking at the same laundry pile.

You’re not thinking about the patient you need to call back, the team issue you need to deal with, or the 14 things waiting for you tomorrow.

There’s suddenly a little more space.

Space to notice how you’re actually feeling.

Space to hear yourself think.

Space to breathe.

Maybe that’s one reason I’ve always loved yoga so much.

Yoga creates that same kind of interruption.

It pulls us out of autopilot and brings us back into the moment we’re actually living.

And sometimes, getting away makes that a whole lot easier.

That’s part of what we’re creating at our upcoming retreat in Palm Springs.

A few days away from the usual noise to move, breathe, connect, reflect, laugh, rest—and remember what it feels like when you’re not responsible for EVERYTHING.

Yes, there will be yoga.

But you definitely do not need to be “good at yoga” to come.

This is about creating enough space to reconnect with yourself—and bringing some of that feeling home with you.

If that sounds like exactly what you’ve been craving, I’d love for you to join us in Palm Springs.

An intimate luxury wellness retreat for women dentists co-hosted by Dr. Shivani Barto & Dr. Josie Dovidio. March 4-7, 2027 in Palm Springs, CA.
