📰 Update on Wally, the Walmart Kitty 🐾
If you have lived in Uvalde for a while, you may recognize this handsome orange face. For several years, he has made the Walmart area his home. Every so often, his picture appears on the local lost-and-found pages when a concerned person tries to locate his family. It seems that half the town has fed him, watched over him, or worried about him at one time or another.
About three weeks ago, one of our wonderful clients decided to do more than worry. With a great deal of patience, he began feeding and befriending the cat until he earned enough trust to safely get him into a carrier and bring him to us.
Now affectionately named Wally, he initially stayed in a secure outdoor enclosure while becoming familiar with his new person and surroundings. When the weather became dangerously hot, Wally moved indoors to a quiet, isolated room. Because there is already another pet in the home—and because frightened cats generally adjust better in a small, peaceful space—his introduction to indoor family life is being handled slowly and carefully.
Wally recently returned for a recheck, and his skin already looks so much better! He was purring and making biscuits in the exam room, although all these changes are still a little overwhelming for him. He does not completely trust his new world just yet, but he is making wonderful progress.
After years of surviving in a Walmart parking lot, Wally is well on his way to becoming the most pampered house cat in Uvalde. 🧡
We are incredibly grateful to the many people who have watched over him through the years—and especially to the kind and patient person who finally gave him the chance to come home.
