A broken collarbone can happen fast. One hard fall skiing, a mountain bike crash, or direct impact on the shoulder can lead to significant pain and limited arm movement.

Clavicle fractures are especially common in active patients and athletes throughout the mountains. Symptoms often include:

• Pain when lifting or moving the arm
• Swelling or bruising around the collarbone
• A visible bump or deformity
• Clicking, grinding, or instability in the shoulder

While some clavicle fractures heal well with a sling and time, others may require surgery to restore alignment and help patients safely return to sports and activity.

Most people expect a knee injury to come with swelling. But what if your knee catches, locks, or won’t fully straighten… without any noticeable swelling?

According to Dr. Joseph, this can still be a sign of a torn meniscus causing a mechanical blockage inside the joint.

During the 120 mile Triple Bypass ride, Tim crashed near Lake Dillon and suffered multiple femur fractures. What first felt like a bad fall quickly became a serious injury that required complex surgery.

Dr. Joseph stabilized Tim’s femur with a titanium rod and screws, allowing him to begin recovery quickly.

Just weeks later, Tim was back on a bike. Two months after surgery, he was riding 22 miles.

For Tim, getting back to cycling and coaching Special Olympics athletes was the goal from the start.
