🐛 From caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly! 🦋 Over the past few weeks, our residents have had the opportunity to watch one of nature’s most incredible transformations unfold right before their eyes.

We began with monarch caterpillars, which ate, grew, and eventually formed their chrysalises. Inside, an amazing transformation took place. After patiently waiting, beautiful monarch butterflies emerged!

Once their wings were ready for flight, our residents gathered to release the monarchs into the wild, sending them off on the next part of their journey. ✨

Yesterday, the world said goodbye to Dolly Parton. While she will always be remembered for her unmistakable voice, beloved songs and joyful spirit, one of her greatest legacies can be found on the bookshelves of millions of children. 🦋

Inspired by her father, who was unable to read or write, Dolly founded Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in 1995 to give children access to books and encourage a lifelong love of reading. What began in her home county in Tennessee grew into an international program that now mails millions of free books to children each month. 📚

In honor of Dolly and her incredible impact on childhood literacy, we're filling the Pines Village Little Free Library with children's books for the remainder of August and throughout September. ✨

We invite families in our community to stop by and choose a book to take home and enjoy. Read it, love it, share it or pass it along to another young reader. 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

Thank you for the music, the joy and for millions of books, Dolly. 🎙️💓✨📚

There’s nothing quite like homemade pickles! 🥒 Residents gathered for an afternoon of slicing, seasoning and filling their jars with fresh cucumbers. It was a fun hands-on activity made even better by good conversation and time spent together. ❤

Another meaningful Quilts of Valor presentation filled our community with gratitude. We were honored to recognize veterans with handmade quilts. A heartfelt reminder that their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Thank you to Quilts of Valor and its dedicated volunteers for making this special moment possible. 🇺🇸

When Art Barn School of Art reached out about hosting a couple of art classes at Pines Village, because they were still without electricity following the devastating storms, we were happy to open our doors. We’re grateful we could help Art Barn and Opportunity Enterprises keep this meaningful arts programming on schedule! 🎨

Thanks to Pines Village Retirement Communities for providing space for our art class with Opportunity Enterprises yesterday. Thanks to Pines Village's generosity, we were able to stay on schedule with our class with OE. Although we weren't able to see students at Art Barn, we were still able to provide important arts programming with our regular instructor, Nancy Petruska.

"Pivoting" is a skill we use during these unprecedented times to provide some normalcy for our students. Big thanks to OE for being willing to provide transportation to a different location and thanks to Pines Village for making space for us. We value you so much!

We’re grateful to share that Pines Village has full power at both campuses following the recent storms. ⚡️ Our hearts remain with our neighbors across Northwest Indiana who are still recovering. We’ve been inspired by the incredible community response, from neighbors helping neighbors to the NIPSCO crews and visiting lineworkers working long hours, along with police officers, firefighters, first responders, public works teams, volunteers, and everyone lending a hand.

Thank you for showing what it means to be a community. Please continue to stay safe and look out for one another. 💚🤍

Power has been restored at our Meridian Woods campus! 🔌 During the outage, many Meridian Woods residents joined us at Pines Village for coffee, a hot meal, a place to charge their devices, and time together. That’s the benefit of being part of the Pines Village family; we support one another and make the best of difficult situations. 💚

We've had the pleasure of serving over 160 meals to Meridian Woods residents since Tuesday's massive storm. It was great to see new faces in the dining room!
