Healthy fears are necessary for survival. Unhelpful or irrational fears and phobias, however, can feel like an invisible prison. While others might not see the struggle, those burdened by phobias often navigate their entire lives around them. This daily strain can lead to embarrassment, shame, missed opportunities, and eroded self-confidence, turning everyday life into a minefield of avoidant behaviors and compulsions.

But there is hope. Our counselors provide a non-judgmental environment with unconditional positive regard for you and your journey. Together, we will identify these limiting fears and work at gradually shrinking what once felt like insurmountable giants. Whether you are managing the intrusive thoughts of OCD or a specific phobia that limits your quality of life, you do not have to struggle alone. If you are ready to take back your life from burdensome fears, we're ready to join you - https://reallifecounseling.us

We’re excited to share that Real Life Counseling has been nominated for Best of Clark County for the second year in a row!

Working in mental health, we care deeply about the people we work with and the community we serve. This isn’t just a job for us—it’s about showing up for people in some of their most vulnerable moments, helping them feel heard, supported, and not alone. We’re honored every time someone trusts us with their story, and we don’t take that responsibility lightly.

Being part of this community means everything to us, and we’re truly grateful for the relationships we’ve built here in Clark County. It’s a privilege to walk alongside individuals, couples, and families as they heal, grow, and find hope.

Shame has only one role in our lives - creating sorrow about ourselves. It isn't motivated to find solutions, usher in hope or cultivate long term change or growth. It only provides an immediate and sometimes hopeless sense of guilt & defeat. It's also a myth that shame must be present for accountability or growth to take place. In reality, shame often acts as a silent barrier to recovery, fostering the belief that personal struggles are inherent & permanent character flaws rather than challenges to be addressed.

At Real Life Counseling, we provide a safe, non-judgmental environment to break this cycle of silence & shame. We have flexible scheduling and a host of experienced and caring counselors who can help dismantle that harsh "inner critic," and replace self-stigma with compassion & understanding. This shift is essential for true healing and growth, as it transforms shame from an immobilizing weight into a catalyst for personal growth and resilience. Feeling anxious is a normal part of the human experience, but it shouldn’t cost us our confidence or our presence. While anxiety is a vital survival tool designed to keep us safe, it can at times become a debilitating intrusion. Anxiety is our body's way to prepare for "fight or flight". It's a state of vigilance or our mind's "sentry" mode, preparing for a perceived threat. But when anxiety is hyper-vigilant against unlikely or improbable threats, it unintentionally robs us of our ability to enjoy the moment and overlooks our proven strengths and past successes.

Learning to treat anxiety as a helpful co-pilot rather than the person in the driver’s seat takes time. Counseling supports this recalibration, helping our internal alarm system to slow down on "misperceiving" false threats, to integrate current strengths and to remember past successes. Counselors are here to support you with that process so your anxiety's strength of being prepared for future events isn't robbing you of your enjoyment & investment of the present. Seeing our strengths, especially when we're struggling, can be elusive and even hidden from us. We all have areas of our lives that are very important to us - including our mental health - that we can sometimes struggle to care for in the way we want. When we fall short of these goals, it can feel defeating. However, much like stars in the night sky, our strengths do not vanish simply because they are momentarily obscured by darkness. Counseling offers a supportive space to rediscover these hidden capabilities, bringing them to the surface as a reminder that we are far more than our challenges. If you are seeking support in identifying your strengths or navigating life's barriers, we are here to help. We have a host of counselors with a variety of specialized focuses and acceptable insurances, along with convenient times and locations. Click here to get started: https://reallifecounseling.us

Grief is not a problem to be solved or a task to be checked off a list; it is a profound, messy, and deeply personal reorientation of your world. It often arrives in unpredictable waves—some days the water is still, and other days you are pulled under by the sheer weight of an "unspent love" that no longer has a physical place to go. There is no right way to navigate this landscape, and "moving on" is rarely the goal; rather, it is about slowly learning to carry the loss until it becomes a part of your story instead of the entire book. Be patient with yourself in the quiet moments, knowing that your sorrow is simply a testament to the depth of the connection you shared. Because this journey can feel so isolating, you don’t have to find your way through the fog alone. As people, we carry a lot around, day to day, that goes well beyond what's in our pockets, bags or back packs. We carry our experiences - recent and far back. We carry our futures - things we're excited for and things we worry about. We carry our joys - what we value and treasure. We also carry our pains. Some are physical, in the form of a scar or ache. Some are mental or emotional - those extremely hard times we may have barely survived and now can't seem to escape the memories of. Sometimes we carry those mental or emotional pains more visibly because of just how painful they were. That can often translate into heavier baggage in our lives that makes engaging with the "present" more challenging. What is truly needed is to offload that baggage, through validating & empowering conversations, that allows an actual healing to occur. Preserving our pain - whether knowingly or unknowingly - only keeps the wounds open while believing that may be the only way for it not to happen again. Counseling can help with finding your way to safely put that baggage down, thru validating and caring conversations that empower you to move ahead - and put you in the driver's seat of your life, and not your pain. When you're ready, that journey can begin right here: https://reallifecounseling.us

Counseling is a courageous first step toward breaking free from the weight of the past. Together, we can work to resolve these triggers and reclaim your life.
