🐍 Happy Snake Day!

Did you know that snakes make incredible pets when they're provided with the right care? At Altitude Veterinary Services, we're proud to care for a variety of exotic pets—including snakes!

Whether you're a first-time snake owner or an experienced reptile enthusiast, proper husbandry is one of the most important factors in keeping your snake healthy.

Here are a few tips for successful snake care:

• Provide the correct temperature gradient. Snakes rely on external heat to regulate their body temperature, so they need both a warm side and a cooler side in their enclosure.
• Maintain appropriate humidity. Every species has different humidity requirements, and proper levels are essential for healthy sheds and respiratory health.
• Feed the right prey size and schedule. Avoid overfeeding, and always offer appropriately sized prey for your snake's age and species.
• Always provide fresh, clean water. Many snakes enjoy soaking, especially during shedding.
• Minimize handling after meals. Wait 48–72 hours after feeding to reduce the risk of regurgitation.
• Watch for signs of illness. Difficulty shedding, wheezing, bubbles around the nose or mouth, mouth discoloration, weight loss, mites, or refusing meals for an abnormal length of time can all be signs that your snake needs veterinary care.

One of the biggest misconceptions about snakes is that they don't need routine veterinary care. Regular health exams can help identify problems early, ensure your husbandry is on track, and keep your snake thriving for years to come.

Whether you share your home with a ball python, corn snake, boa, king snake, or another reptile, our team is here to help with wellness exams, health concerns, and exotic pet care.

Happy Snake Day from all of us at Altitude Veterinary Services!

🚨Exciting News! Rabbit Owners, We've Got You Covered!

Here at Altitude Veterinary services we now offer the RHDV2 Rabbit vaccine! Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus Type 2 (RHDV2) is a highly contagious and often fatal virus that affects both domestic and wild rabbits. The virus can spread through direct contact with infected rabbits, but it can also be carried on shoes, clothing, hands, hay, food, cages, bedding, and even insects.

That means even indoor-only rabbits can be at risk.

The good news is that vaccination is the best way to help protect your rabbit from this devastating disease.

At Altitude Veterinary Services, we're proud to offer:
• RHDV2 vaccinations
• Wellness exams
• Rabbit spays and neuters
• Medical care for sick rabbits
• Comprehensive exotic pet care

Rabbits are masters at hiding illness, making routine veterinary care just as important as it is for dogs and cats. Whether you're welcoming a new bunny into your family or have had rabbits for years, our team is here to help keep them healthy.

If you have questions about the RHDV2 vaccine or would like to schedule your rabbit's appointment, give Altitude Veterinary Services a call. We're here for all of your rabbit's healthcare needs.

🐱Happy National Kitten Day!

There's nothing quite like bringing home a new kitten! National Kitten Day is the perfect reminder to give your newest family member the healthiest possible start.

At Altitude Veterinary Services, we're here to help your kitten grow into a happy, healthy adult cat. We recommend scheduling a wellness exam soon after bringing your kitten home. During those early visits, we'll:
• Perform a complete wellness exam
• Start their kitten vaccination series
• Check for and treat intestinal parasites
• Discuss flea, tick, and heartworm prevention
• Answer your questions about nutrition, behavior, and development
• Create a plan for spaying or neutering
• Microchip your kitten for lifelong identification

New Kitten Owner Tips
• Feed a high-quality kitten diet.
• Keep your kitten indoors for a longer, healthier life.
• Provide scratching posts, toys, and daily playtime for mental and physical enrichment.
• Keep the litter box clean and place it in a quiet, easily accessible location.
• Gently handle your kitten's paws, ears, and mouth to help them become comfortable with grooming and future veterinary visits.

Whether you're a first-time cat owner or adding another furry friend to your family, our team is here to support you every step of the way.

Call us today to schedule your kitten's first wellness exam, and share a photo of your kitten in the comments—we'd love to meet them!

Who remembers Dug?

Dug came to see us after a run-in with a car that left him with a broken jaw. Thanks to some creative thinking from Dr. Kinney, the help of our amazing team, Dug was able to get the treatment he needed and is expected to make a full recovery!

We thought it would be fun to share Dug's journey from start to finish and show just how far he's come.

A big thank you to Jolley Orthodontics for helping make Dug's recovery possible.

Join us in celebrating Dug's progress—yay, Dug!

🇺🇸❤️🤍💙 Happy 4th of July from all of us at Altitude Veterinary Services! 🐾

We hope everyone has a fun, safe holiday with family, friends, and plenty of good food. Just remember—not everything at the cookout is safe for our four-legged family members.

Please keep your pets away from:
• Cooked bones
• Corn cobs
• Onions, garlic, and chives
• Grapes and raisins
• Chocolate
• Alcohol
• Fatty meats and table scraps
• Foods and treats containing xylitol (birch sugar)

Don't forget the hidden hazards, too! Grease drippings, BBQ skewers, food wrappers, aluminum foil, and overflowing trash cans can all be tempting—and dangerous—for curious pets.

Keep fireworks, sparklers, glow sticks, and lighter fluid out of reach, and remember that many pets feel safest indoors during the fireworks.

If you think your pet has eaten something toxic or is showing signs of illness, contact your nearest emergency veterinary hospital or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center right away.

ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center - (800) 122-1222.

Have a safe, fun-filled Fourth of July, and enjoy making memories with your two- and four-legged family members! ❤️🤍💙
