What happens when diabetic nerve pain doesn’t improve enough with medication?

Burning. Tingling. Shooting pain. Feet so sensitive that even light touch can hurt.

For some people with painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy, medications and other conservative treatments simply don’t provide enough relief.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re out of options.

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a treatment option for appropriately selected patients with painful diabetic neuropathy.

And unlike many treatments, SCS has a trial period—giving you an opportunity to experience the therapy temporarily before deciding whether a permanent implant is something you want to consider.

Living with painful diabetic neuropathy?

There are three opportunities to learn more this month.

If diabetes has left you dealing with burning, tingling, numbness or painful feet despite medications and other treatments, we want you to know there may be additional options to consider.

This month, our ISPI physicians are hosting a series of patient education events about spinal cord stimulation (SCS) for painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Come learn how the therapy works, who may be a candidate, and how the temporary trial allows appropriate patients to try the therapy before deciding whether to move forward with an implant.

What does comprehensive pain care look like?

At Interventional Spine & Pain Institute, it starts with understanding where your pain is coming from—and determining which treatment, if any, is appropriate for you.

Our team treats a wide range of pain conditions, including:

• Neck and back pain
• Herniated discs and sciatica
• Arthritis and joint pain
• SI joint pain
• Neuropathy and peripheral nerve pain
• Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS)
• And other complex spine and pain conditions

Treatment may range from conservative care and image-guided procedures to advanced minimally invasive treatments and neuromodulation.

The goal isn't to do the most treatment. It's to find the right treatment for the right patient at the right time.

A little birthday cake, and a good excuse for a quick team photo. 🎂💙

We don’t always manage to get everyone in the same place at the same time, so when we had part of our Vero Beach team together for cake, we took advantage of the moment!

These are some of the faces helping care for our patients, answer the phones, coordinate procedures, keep the office moving, and make ISPI what it is every day.

When Dr. Esposito founded Interventional Spine & Pain Institute, he wanted the freedom to build a different kind of pain practice.

🔥 Therapy Thursday: What Is Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA)?

One of the most common questions we hear is:
"What exactly is a Radiofrequency Ablation?"
Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) is a type of injection used to help reduce chronic pain by interrupting pain signals from small sensory nerves.

Think of it like turning down the volume on a pain signal.

RFA may be used to treat pain from:
✔️ Arthritis in the neck or back (facet joints)
✔️ Chronic shoulder pain
✔️ Chronic knee pain—including some patients who continue to have pain after a total knee replacement
✔️ Certain types of hip pain

The goal of RFA is to help reduce pain and improve function so you can get back to the activities you enjoy.

Not everyone is a candidate for RFA.

Before recommending this treatment, we perform a thorough evaluation to determine whether the painful joint is truly the source of your symptoms. For many spine conditions, this includes diagnostic nerve blocks before considering radiofrequency ablation.

At Interventional Spine & Pain Institute, we'll work with you to determine whether RFA—or another treatment—is the best option for your specific condition.
