Always tired, bloated after meals, craving sweets, and stuck in a cycle of worry and overthinking? Your digestive system may be struggling.

In Chinese medicine, this is often described as Spleen Qi deficiency. The idea is that your body is meant to turn food into usable energy. When that process becomes weakened, eating can leave you feeling sluggish and uncomfortable instead of energized.

The tricky part is that we often start wanting the very things that can keep the cycle going.

When your body isn’t producing energy efficiently, quick sources of energy become especially tempting. Sugar can provide a short-lived lift. Caffeine may help you power through fatigue. Cold drinks can feel refreshing. But these are usually temporary fixes rather than addressing the underlying issue.

And yes… adding ice to everything is making it worse 🫣

I’ll hold your hand while I say this…

If you are constantly tired, run cold, and are bloated all the time (or especially after eating), you need to dump that ice out of your water bottle.

In Chinese medicine, these symptoms often point to a digestive system that’s struggling to generate enough warmth to properly transform food into energy. Constantly flooding the system with ice-cold drinks is like throwing water on a campfire that’s already having a hard time staying lit.

That doesn’t mean you can never enjoy an iced coffee or cold drink again. But if your body is giving you these signs, switching to room temperature or warm beverages for a few weeks might make a bigger difference than you’d think.

Your p**p report is one of my favorite diagnostic tools. Sorry, not sorry.

In Chinese medicine, the ideal bowel movement is:

✔️ 1–2 times per day
✔️ Easy to pass (no straining)
✔️ Well-formed but not hard
✔️ Feels complete when you’re done
✔️ Minimal odor and easy to wipe

Your bowel movements tell us a lot about what’s happening inside the body.

Constipation, loose stools, urgency, incomplete evacuation, excessive gas, mucus, or needing coffee to get things moving are all clues that something is out of balance.

I ask about p**p at every intake for a reason. It might not be glamorous, but it’s one of the best windows into your overall health.

So... how’s your digestion really doing?
