At 78, Mack figured his pickleball days were behind him.

Sciatica had taken over his life — sharp, searing pain down his leg that hit hardest in the mornings and at night. Driving, bending, even sitting in a hard chair could set it off. He'd tried three rounds of cortisone injections, each one working less than the last. Physical therapy made things worse. Surgery was starting to feel like the only option left.

Here's what we told him: sciatica is a nerve problem, not just a bad back. That's how we treated it — with electroacupuncture and our ATP Resonance BioTherapy®, working to calm the irritated nerve and support his body's own healing.

By his 12th treatment, Mack was walking with his wife again. By his 20th, the sciatica was gone entirely.

Today he's back on the pickleball court, hiking with his family, and spending his afternoons right where he wants to be — in his garden.

I'm Dr. Teresa McFarland, and stories like Mack's are exactly why I opened AcuPoint Wellness Clinic here in Vienna, VA. If pain has taken something from your life, I'd love to help you get it back.

Burning. Tingling. A numbness that comes and goes, then doesn’t.

You know the feeling.

You get out of bed, and your feet don’t quite feel like your feet. You take a few steps and something that should feel completely ordinary suddenly feels… strange.

Maybe you check your sock because it feels like something is bunched underneath your toes, only to find there’s nothing there.

Maybe the seam of your shoe suddenly feels unbearable.

Or maybe you’re walking down the stairs and catch yourself gripping the railing a little tighter because your foot didn’t quite tell you where the next step was.

And for a moment, you feel that little flicker of fear.

Because walking is something you’re supposed to be able to do without thinking about it.

That’s what can make nerve symptoms so difficult. It isn’t always just the burning, tingling or numbness. It’s the way something so familiar can suddenly feel unfamiliar.

And then comes the part that can be even harder: trying to explain it.

“My feet just feel wrong.”

Not necessarily painful.
Not completely numb.
Just… wrong.

So you start wondering if you’re overreacting. If it’s just part of getting older. If it will eventually go away on its own.

Peripheral neuropathy doesn’t always start dramatically. Sometimes the changes are subtle. A strange sensation. Occasional tingling. A patch of numbness. Increased sensitivity. Symptoms that come and go before becoming harder to ignore.

That doesn’t mean you should panic. But it does mean they’re worth paying attention to.

If your feet have started feeling different, you deserve to have those changes taken seriously and understood in the context of your individual history and symptoms.

Because you shouldn’t have to think about every step you take.

Peripheral neuropathy shows up differently for everyone because it's not one condition, it could be one of four...including a blend!

🔹 Sensory - numbness, tingling, burning, balance issues
🔹 Motor - muscle weakness, foot drop, trouble gripping
🔹 Autonomic - heart rate changes, digestive issues, bladder dysfunction
🔹 Combination - a mix of the above, common in diabetic and chemo-related cases

If you've been noticing symptoms and brushing them off, this is your reminder: nerve health deserves attention, no matter which type you're dealing with.

Our treatments support the body's ability to improve circulation, calm inflammation, and restore nerve signaling, helping address the root, not just the symptom.

Tingling. Numbness. Burning that creeps in at night. Your nerves don't act up for no reason; they're sending a signal.

Peripheral neuropathy often starts subtly before it gets loud. Some of the most common signs:

🔹 Persistent tingling or "pins and needles" in the feet or hands
🔹 Numbness that dulls how you feel touch, temperature, or your own steps
🔹 Burning or shooting pain that seems to appear out of nowhere

It can stem from nerve compression, poor circulation, blood sugar imbalances, or nutrient deficiencies, and left unaddressed, those small signals tend to grow louder.

Acupuncture works by stimulating targeted points to improve blood flow, calm inflammation, and support nerve signaling, helping your body do what it's designed to do: heal.

If you've been brushing off tingling, numbness, or burning, this is your sign to get it looked at. Nerve health is foundational health.

Save for later 💙

Heading into fall with a chronic illness? Here are 3 ways to make the transition a little easier on your body.

1. Protect your sleep before the schedule shifts, not after.
Shorter days throw off your rhythm fast. If sleep is already fragile, start guarding it now, rather than trying to fix it once it's already off.

2. Ease into the weather change instead of reacting to it.
Flares often show up right as the temperature drops. Layer up, move gently, and give your body a heads-up instead of waiting for the ache to show up first.

3. Build in rest before you're forced to.
It's tempting to keep the same pace as summer. But planning for rest now is easier than recovering from a crash later.

None of this fixes everything. But small adjustments now can make the season ahead a little more manageable.

Which one are you starting with? 🍂

Save for later!

Is your nervous system stuck in survival mode?

Here are 3 signs you might recognise:

1. You’re always on edge, even when nothing’s actually wrong.

2. Your sleep is all over the place, whether you’re struggling to fall asleep or waking up feeling like you never really switched off.

3. Your body feels tense all the time, tight shoulders, a clenched jaw, shallow breathing, or that feeling that you just can’t fully relax.

Sound familiar?

Acupuncture can help support your nervous system’s ability to shift out of that constant “on” state and into a calmer, more regulated one.

You don’t have to wait until you’re completely burnt out to pay attention to what your body’s been telling you.

If this sounds like you, let’s talk.

Your body rarely goes from "fine" to "not fine" overnight. Long before anything feels urgent, it usually sends smaller signals first! A tight jaw you don't remember tensing, a headache that shows up at the same time every afternoon, a night of restless sleep that turns into a week of them... The list goes on.

But when these things show up, and you have exhausted what YOU believe were all of your options, it's easy to explain these things away. We're all busy, and it's simpler to push through than to keep looking for what's actually to help.

You don't need to wait until something feels like an emergency to ask for help, and you don't need to stop looking for alternative solutions. If you've noticed something small nagging at you lately, or for a long while...that's reason enough to reach out to US.

There is more than one way to heal!

Starting the conversation is often the hardest part. But everything starts with a conversation.
Maybe you've already seen a few different practitioners. Maybe you're not even sure what "having a chat" would actually look like, or what your options even are. A post can only tell you so much, sometimes what you really need is a specialist with real experience, in a space that feels more familiar than you'd expect.

That's exactly what Dr. Teresa creates at Acupoint Wellness Clinic, a space where you feel seen, where you know you have options, and where you know you're not alone in this.

No more Googling your symptoms late at night. It's time to talk to someone.

You don't have to figure this out alone, get in touch! 🌟
