Asteya — the practice of non-stealing.
Beyond physical possessions, Asteya asks us to examine where we take energy, attention, time, trust, or peace that was never freely given.
A few reflections to sit with:
• How do you steal from yourself?
• Where do you abandon your own needs, boundaries, or joy?
• Do you take up space in ways that leave little room for others?
• Do you seek attention from lack rather than connection?
• In community spaces, do you take more than you contribute?
• During class, do you monopolize a teacher’s time in moments meant for collective learning?
• As a teacher, do you steal from your students by arriving distracted, unprepared, or disconnected from presence?
• Where in your life are you grasping from scarcity instead of trusting in enoughness?
• What would change if you truly believed there was enough for everyone, including you?
“When one is firmly established in non-stealing, all jewels appear.”
