Mary Nettles Croft

Ms. Mary Nettles Croft, 79, of Charleston, entered into rest Saturday morning, August 8, 2026, at Roper St. Francis of Mount Pleasant. She was the loving wife of the late Mr. Phillip M. Croft.

Born March 8, 1947, in Walterboro, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Ernest E. Nettles and the late Joan Carmichael Nettles. A graduate of St. Paul’s High School in 1966, she retired from the Crippled Children’s Clinic as a Medical Clerk following thirty years of dedicated service. She was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church at Adams Run, where she was active in many aspects of the church’s work. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was always present when she was needed. She will always be remembered for baking delicious cakes.

Surviving are: two sisters, Myrtle Nettles Maull and Sarah Nettles Dupree; two stepdaughters, Karen Croft Venesky and Melissa Croft Price; a sister-in-law, Sandra Croft Luten; the loving companion of her late brother, Ruth Rizer; two nephews, Jackson “Bernie” Maull (Camille) and Edward Bryant (Maggi); a special aunt, Nancy Carmichael; and several special grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ernestine Canady; a brother, Johnny E. Nettles; two nieces, Teresa Hughes and Allison Stanley; and two brothers-in-law, Jack Maull and Bobby DuPree.

The family would like to thank the Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital fourth floor nurses and staff and Roper Hospice for all their love and care for Mary during her stay. They will be in our hearts forever.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, August 12, 2026, from Hopewell Baptist Church, 6869 Parkers Ferry Road, Adams Run. The Reverend Naveen Balakrishnan officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 10 o’clock that morning in the church sanctuary.

William Gelzer

Mr. William Carroll Gelzer, 69, of Walterboro, entered into rest Saturday, August 1, 2026, at his residence.

Born September 9, 1956, in Walterboro, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Willis Gelzer and the late Pattie Redish Gelzer. William, as he was known by all, was educated in the Colleton County Public School System and as a child had attended Evergreen Baptist Church in Williams. He retired from the City of Walterboro and will be remembered as a fan of all types of sports.

Surviving are: his two sisters, Joyce Coaxum Gelzer and Sandra Gelzer both of Walterboro; one niece; one nephew, and six great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by three beloved aunts and a host of cousins and extended family.

Arrangements for his funeral service are incomplete at this time and will be announced in due course.
