Our Life Skills crew is brewing up some Halloween fun!

Good friends, big smiles, and a little seasonal sipping make for a fun fall outing—and even our four-legged plush friend dressed for the occasion!

No tricks here, just treats and time together. 🧡🎃

Kindness is part of Staci’s everyday life. 💙

Our 2026 Person of the Year is quick to help a friend, lend a hand at the computer, or read the next stop on a Meals on Wheels route. She’s also making her own wishes known, enjoying adventures with her family, and proudly sharing her Person of the Year recognition.

Stories like Staci’s remind us why tomorrow’s opportunities matter.

As National Estate Planning Awareness Week comes to a close, consider the future you want to help create—for your loved ones and the causes close to your heart.

Through the Foundation for Abilities First NY’s partnership with FreeWill, you can create a will for free in about 30 minutes. You can also choose to include a legacy gift that helps opportunities like Staci’s continue for generations.

The week ends today. Your lasting impact can begin anytime. 💙

🎃💙 Five Years of Making Halloween More Inclusive!

The Halloween spirit is going strong as the Foundation for Abilities First NY and Walden Savings Bank celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Blue Pumpkin Initiative!

For five years, this special partnership has helped spread awareness, understanding, and a little extra Halloween magic throughout our community.

💙 Blue trick-or-treat bags offer a simple way to let others know that a child may communicate or experience Halloween differently, encouraging patience, kindness, and inclusion along the way.

A big shoutout to Walden Savings Bank for continuing to champion this initiative and helping make Halloween a fun and welcoming experience for everyone!

Here's to another year of costumes, candy, community connections, and celebrating what makes each of us unique!

Because Halloween fun is for EVERYONE! 🎃

💙🎃 A blue pumpkin bag means the child carrying it may not make eye contact, wear a mask, or say “trick or treat,” but they’re just as excited to celebrate.

Blue Pumpkin bags are going home with students at all of our education sites during this year’s Truck or Treat events, thanks to our friends at Walden Savings Bank!

Want one? Stop by Walden Savings Bank at Scotts Corner in Montgomery while supplies last.

As fall begins and New York State prepares for another budget year, Abilities First remains focused on what matters most: ensuring children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) have access to the quality programs, services, and supports they need to learn, grow, and thrive.

Alongside disability service providers across New York State, we are advocating for three important investments:

🍂 A 3.4% Targeted Inflationary Increase to help providers keep pace with rising operational costs.

🍂 A CareForce Wage Investment to support the dedicated professionals who make our mission possible every day.

🍂 Restoration of the Healthcare Enhancement Program to help address increasing healthcare costs and support workforce retention.

At Abilities First, we see firsthand the difference that dedicated staff, quality programs, and consistent services make in the lives of the individuals and families we serve throughout the Hudson Valley.

Investing in the I/DD system means investing in people, opportunities, and stronger communities.
