Sunny and 80°+ in Rhode Island today! It’s a great day to get outside, but don’t forget to care for your hearing aids in the heat.

Warm weather, sweat, sunscreen, and humidity can all affect how your devices perform. Before you head out, remember to:

☀️ Wipe your hearing aids with a soft, dry cloth
☀️ Keep them out of direct heat when not in use
☀️ Avoid leaving them in the car
☀️ Apply sunscreen or bug spray before putting devices in
☀️ Use a hearing aid dryer or dehumidifier overnight
☀️ Check wax guards and microphone ports if sound seems muffled

New England humidity can make an 80° day feel much hotter, and your ears, nose, and throat can feel the effects. ☀️

When you’re spending time outside, especially in thick summer air, remember to:

🥤Stay hydrated to keep your throat and nasal passages from drying out
🏡 Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning
💦 Use saline spray if humidity, pollen, or allergens are irritating your nose
🛀 Shower after outdoor time to rinse away pollen and mold spores
👂 Protect your ears after swimming by drying them gently
🌀 Watch for symptoms like dizziness, headache, nausea, heavy sweating, or trouble breathing

Humidity can also make allergies, sinus pressure, post-nasal drip, and throat irritation feel worse. If your symptoms linger or keep coming back, it may be time to check in with an ENT specialist.

Enjoy the sunshine, but take care of your airway, sinuses, throat, and ears while you’re out there.
