When most people think about massage, they imagine a spa experience - dim lighting, hot towels, flow states, a luxury that some people have when they’re looking to pamper themselves.
That’s not wrong, it’s just one side of the coin.
I was trained in both Shiatsu Massage and Therapeutic Massage from CenterPoint Massage and Shiatsu Therapy and Clinic. My program started out in the Shiatsu realm where we dug deep into Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which evaluates physical, mental, emotional and environmental states and works with the meridian system that most people are familiar with from Acupuncture. This set of skills utilizes cupping, guasha (scraping), moxibustion (take-home only), ampuku (abdominal massage) and stretching.
Next in my program we dug deep into therapeutic bodywork. Therapeutic bodywork differs from relaxation massage as the outcome is to address chronic pain and dysfunction as well as mobility using deeper targeted pressure.
I often bring a bit of my frequency or sound training into the experience. No, I’m not dinging noises around you while you paid for hands on time. 🙃 A weighted tuning (136.1hz) is used to pe*****te deeper muscle groups or stimulate acupoints to create subtle change and create space. This tuning fork also helps clients who have sensitivities - both physical or energetic.
Sometimes I use a bit of ThetaHealing® Technique by targeting stubborn areas to facilitate release and change.
With these specialties, clients come in with a wide range of objective. Some come in with chronic pain issues, general maintenance, trauma or energetic release, and mobility dysfunction.
The goal is to find a bit of relief for clients and create more space for movement and expression.
