We always have so much to be thankful for and each blessing is prayed over. Do you know that each and every product, jar, label, each customer that simply touches our stuff or comes into our booth or likes our posts are prayed for daily. Each local business that we come across is also prayed over. On the way to market in Bentonville this past Saturday we hit a deer and damaged the van. We were extremely blessed that no one was hurt (except the poor deer). We thank Ken's Collision Center and Wilson’s Towing in Cassville, MO for coming to pick up the van for repairs. Everyone has been so kind and timely thus far and have handled most of the insurance claim process for us. We appreciate them and our customers for the patience. We will be at market in Bentonville this Saturday October 31st from 7:30-1pm ready to finish off the last market of the outdoor season. Come by and meet our new addition to the Simplicity Home Goods family, Luke!!! I’ll give him a proper introduction soon in its own post. Well we are okay but won’t be making it to Bentonville Farmers Market this morning October 24th. If anyone knows the rural roads of AR/MO you know the deer are out and they just can’t help themselves when deciding to cross a road or not. This one decided to cross and we couldn’t miss it safely. The van we use to and from markets is not okay. Don’t worry, text me, message me here or shop online for stock up and we will be there next week for the final outdoor market of the season. I’ll have time to do meet ups in NWA on Monday Oct 26 to save any locals from shipping charges. Just let me know before ordering so we can make adjustments to avoid the shipping charges. Your supermarket tomato was engineered to survive a truck, not a taste test.

BRANDYWINE: massive ribbed pink beefsteak, flavor score tops every blind tasting, dropped for thin skin.
BLACK KRIM: smoky salinity from Crimea, splits in rain, so distributors said no.
GREEN ZEBRA: ripe at full green, buyers kept marking it unripe and sending it back.
CHEROKEE PURPLE: bruises on contact, flavor rated exceptional, packers could not handle it.
MORTGAGE LIFTER: bred by one man in West Virginia, sweet low-acid flesh, too lumpy to stack.
AMISH PASTE: dense dry flesh that makes thick sauce fast, invisible in stores by the 1980s.
YELLOW PEAR: honey-sweet clusters, skin too delicate for any commercial line.

This knowledge did not disappear because these tomatoes failed. It disappeared because a distribution system built around uniformity, firmness, and travel time had no category for a tomato that tasted extraordinary but arrived with a crease or a bruise.

What replaced them was bred backward. Modern commercial varieties were selected for gas-ripening tolerance, uniform red color, and skin thick enough to bounce. Flavor was never a selection criterion. Not once.

Grow one of these this year. Save the seed. Hand it to someone. That is how it comes back.
