Treating Gum Disease

A new study suggests that patients with severe gum infections may be able to treat their infections with a combination of low-dose aspirin and omega-3 fatty acid supplements. In the study, all 4 groups got a dental cleaning, but 3 of the groups also received either antibiotics or a treatment combo of low-dose aspirin and 3g of omega-3 supplements, or a combined antibiotic, aspirin and omega-3 treatment. Nearly 58% of those who received any of the three treatment options had about the same improvement in their gum disease, compared to only 23% of the cleaning-only group. This study may present an alternative for people who can’t take antibiotics. Talk with your dental care professional about your options.

The Late Scoop will be continuing into the fall and holiday season!
We have loved the crowds and community that fill up the soda fountain on Friday nights and we are pleased to keep it going! Water Valley Main Street has been lively and events sprawl all down the street for people to dine, shop, sip, and stroll!

Vitamin B12 & Brain Health

As we age, it's harder to absorb the B12 we need from food. A recent study showed that healthy older people who had lower levels of "active" B12 (B12 that can be used by cells in the body) showed signs of neurological and cognitive problems, even though these lower levels fell within the "normal" range. Also, their brain MRI scans revealed higher volume of white matter injury linked to cognitive decline and stroke risk. Researchers suggest lowering the threshold for B12 deficiency and that clinicians should consider recommending supplementation for older patients, even if their blood work is in the acceptable range.

Thank you for the outpouring of love and sympathies as we celebrated the life of Binnie Turnage. We appreciate the understanding and support as we closed the drugstore to honor his life. We can’t thank you all enough for the sweet words and prayers sent our way.
We will continue to honor his legacy and serve the community in the ways he taught us and will do our best to make him proud.

Service arrangements for Mr. Binnie Turnage are below. We invite all who knew and loved him to join us as we celebrate his life.
The pharmacy will be closing at 4 on Friday and closed Saturday so our family and staff can attend. We will reopen at our regular hours on Monday.

Yoga May Calm IBS Symptoms

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is characterized by bloating, recurrent abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits. With IBS, there is a problem with how the brain and gut interact. Sometimes stress triggers symptoms. A recent review suggests that yoga may help reduce symptoms. The study revealed that people with IBS who practiced yoga had fewer overall digestive symptoms, and their levels of anxiety and depression were lower, as well. Researchers speculate that yoga, with its slow movements, controlled breathing and mindfulness, may help activate the body's "rest and digest" response, thus lowering stress and helping digestion.

Mr. Binnie Turnage went home to be with the Lord on Sunday afternoon. Our hearts are heavy, but we are grateful for his life and for each of you.

We are open this morning and will be here for you all week. Caring for this community was his life's work, and we'll keep doing it in his honor. We expect to close at 4 on Friday and close Saturday for services so family and staff can attend. We will confirm arrangements and share them here with everyone soon.

✝️Visitation will be held Friday, 16th of October, 2026 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Gardiner Room of Seven Oaks Funeral Home.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church Water Valley.
