William Heagney Moran

William Heagney Moran, born August 26, 1948, in Waterbury where he lived all his life, died peacefully at his home on Buckingham Street at age 78 on September 2, 2026 after a brief illness. His longtime partner Barry Lennan was at his side.

Bill was a great reader and an incomparable chronicler of the lives of family members and of the countless Waterburians he knew.

Conversations with Bill canvassed whole lifetimes: who went to school where in Waterbury, who married whom, what befell so and so, their tribulations and achievements, their setbacks, successes, and sorrows.

All this never ceased to mesmerize him, prompting an astute friend to call him “the James Joyce of Waterbury.” He was always enshrining how interconnected we all are.

“Billy was a spirit, a force almost too big for him to contain,” wrote the editor/publisher and biographer Victoria Wilson, “and what spilled out in all directions was in the best of intentions and support.”

Bill was a devoted son to his talented and visionary mother, Gertrude Moran Quinn, who was president of the Waterbury Civic Theater and a key force (along with her dear friend Rosemary Monagan, wife of our Congressman) on the Waterbury Arts Council in the 1960s.

Bill also loved to talk about T. F. Moran & Sons, his family’s construction company operating during the post-war boom years of our “Brass City” where his father was a principal until his early death when Bill was just six.

Bill graduated from Cheshire Academy in 1966 where he received a gold medal (and a gold watch from his stepfather, Raymond Quinn, Public Defender of the Superior Court) for his outstanding academic progress. He then went on to study at the University of Connecticut at Storrs.

Bill was for many years a real estate agent for Root & Boyd where his gift of speech made for great success. He and his partner Barry journeyed up and down the coast of New England for their forty happy years together, discovering antique and vintage treasures to sell in their fashionable shops, WilliamBarry Antiques in Woodbury and later Little Black Dress in Naugatuck.

Bill was predeceased by his older brothers James and Michael; his sister Jane Moran Petro; his sister Laurie Quinn and his brother Mark Quinn. He is survived by his partner Barry Lennan; his sisters Faith Moran McDermott and her husband Dan and Alice Quinn and her spouse Laurie Kerr; his many nieces and nephews, including Amy and Michael Petro and their children; Natira and John McDermott and their children; the children of his brother James, Ian, Tara, Taig, James, and Sean; the children of his brother Michael, Evan and Dennis; and the children of his brother Mark, John and Alex. Many cousins were also dear to him, particularly the O’Neil clan of Watertown, Connecticut and many cousins on his mother’s side.

Bill’s tremendous love of life and of Waterbury and its people are his enduring and moving legacy.

Friends are invited to celebrate his remarkable spirit and personality on Saturday, September 5, from 4 to 8 PM at the Bergin Funeral Home at 290 East Main Street in Waterbury.

Robert "TINY" MacMullen Sr

Robert C. “Tiny” MacMullen Sr.

Robert C. MacMullen Sr., affectionately known to many as “Tiny,” passed away peacefully after a

brief illness on August 12, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. He was 84 years old.

Robert was born in Waterbury on January 3, 1942, the son of the late Frederick and Eileen

(Schrader) MacMullen Sr. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and

friend who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Robert was the beloved husband of Nicole (Gingues) MacMullen, with whom he shared 40 years of

marriage. He leaves behind his son, Robert MacMullen Jr. of Waterbury; his son, Patrick “Clyde”

Beaudoin and his wife, Cathy, of Waterbury; his stepson, Mark Beaulieu of Wolcott; his

stepdaughter, Lynn Maia and her husband, Ronald, of Wolcott; and his stepson, Gary Beaulieu of

South Carolina. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, who brought

him much love and joy.

Robert began his working career at Baker’s Inc. in Waterbury and went on to spend many years in

manufacturing, working as a Quality Control Inspector and General Manager for Sealectro of

Watertown, Berco, Pud’s Arco and Microbest of Waterbury. Many will also fondly remember “Tiny”

from his years at Rollermagic, where he worked in the skate rental and Pro Shop.

Outside of work, Robert enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved taking trips to the casino, where

he could often be found playing the slots or trying his luck at the blackjack table. He and Nicole also

enjoyed spending time together playing bingo at various bingo halls.

Those who knew Robert will remember him for his unique sense of humor and his love of joking with

people. He had a way of making people laugh and was never one to pass up an opportunity for a

good-natured joke. His personality, humor, and the memories he created with those around him will

remain in the hearts of his family and friends.

Robert’s greatest legacy will be the family he loved and the many lives he touched throughout his

84 years. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed.

Joan Healey

Joan Therese Healey of Waterbury, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family and close friends, on August 1, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut. Born in Waterbury on October 23, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Frank T. and Jane (Keliher) Healey. Joan graduated from Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1975, received a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Connecticut in 1979, and later earned her Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics at NYU. For 42 years, Joan worked as a registered dietitian at Danbury Hospital, where she was known for unwavering kindness and professionalism in her interactions with patients and coworkers.

Joan was an avid reader and enjoyed fitness classes several times a week with good friends at the YMCA of Waterbury. She spent many hours volunteering at CT Food Share in Wallingford. Joan had a passion for gathering friends and family for special occasions with extravagantly prepared meals, her favorite music (ranging from 40’s hits and polkas to classic rock), and beautiful décor. She was an accomplished host and cook whose warmth and generosity made every occasion memorable. Her family will fondly remember Joan’s enthusiasm for the family football pool, which she often won. She was a stylish dresser who had a knack for discovering hidden gems at TJMaxx. She spent many contented hours exploring clothing, jewelry and shoe racks, once famously shopping through a fire alarm and mall evacuation, completely unaware of the chaos around her.

Joan is survived by eight siblings, Elizabeth (John) Smith, Susan (Mark) Carrier, Anne Healey, Mary Cadman, Frank (Beth) Healey, Martha (Charles) Holden, Barbara (Michael) Plummer and Kate Healey. She is survived by her treasured nieces and nephews, who were her pride and joy: Suzanne Endruschat (Joe Dandrade), Dan (Ashley) Smith, Kate (Michael) Schirdewahn, Michael (Monica) Smith, Allison (John) Horan, Ashley (Matthew) Goodwin, Mark (Brenda) Carrier, Matthew (Jennifer) Carrier, Frank (Jenny) Cadman, Sam (Trang) Cadman, Emily Cadman (Evan Dorney), Frank Healey, Adam Healey, Elisabeth Holden (William Boatwright), Tom (Emily) Holden, Sara (George) Searle, Jane Plummer (Matthew O’Connor), Abby Plummer, and Michael Plummer (Julia DeVine); great nieces and nephews, Iggy Dandrade, Maggie Dandrade, Ace Smith, Allie Schirdewahn, Jack Schirdewahn, Cameron Smith, Jack Horan, Finn Horan, Haylie Carrier, Ryan Carrier, Madelyn Goodwin, Bailey Goodwin, Penny Dorney, Eleanor Boatwright, Molly Holden, Lucy Holden, and Graham Searle, as well as many cousins and her aunt Judy Healey. She leaves behind a beloved friend, Justin Golden. Joan was predeceased by her brother-in-law Fred Cadman and her great niece Nora Schirdewahn.

Joan’s family is grateful to her caregivers, Dr. Annie Ong, Dr. Consuelito Medrano, and the staff at VITAS, St. Mary’s Hospital, for their compassionate care.

A funeral Mass will be held on August 15, at 10:00 am, at Our Lady of Loreto Church in Waterbury. Burial will be Private at a later date.

Waterbury - February 18, 1943 – May 19, 2026 Dorothy “Bonnie” Egan, 83, a lifelong resident of Waterbury, CT, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026. She was predeceased by her husband, Martin Egan. She is survived by her sons, John Carroll (Donna) of Brookfield, CT and Christopher Carroll of Waterbury, CT and her granddaughter, Katherine Carroll. Gregory T Monaghan Sr

Mr. Gregory Todd Monaghan, 78, passed away on Thursday, January 1, in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He is survived by the love of his life, his beloved wife, Rosemary (Harris) Monaghan.

Todd, as he was known to his family and friends, was born May 19, 1947, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the son of the late Donald F. and Dorothy (Burns) Monaghan. Raised in Waterbury, he was a graduate of St. Mary’s Grammar School and Croft High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts in Education from Huron College in South Dakota, and later earned his Master’s Degree in Education, as well as his Sixth-Year Degree in Special Education, from Central Connecticut State University.

Before beginning his teaching career, Todd worked as a respiratory therapist at Waterbury Hospital, where he cared for patients with dedication and compassion. It was after meeting Rose that Todd discovered his true calling in education. Inspired by her support and encouragement, he transitioned into teaching, where he could combine his love of helping others with his natural gift for connecting with young people.

Todd began his teaching career with the City of Waterbury as a teacher at Driggs School. He later became a Special Education teacher at John F. Kennedy High School, where he spent the majority of his career mentoring and inspiring generations of students. Todd was deeply devoted to his students and believed every child deserved patience, encouragement, and the opportunity to succeed. Known for his quick wit, warm smile, and positive outlook, he used humor and kindness to build trust and help students feel comfortable and confident in the classroom. His ability to connect with students, particularly those facing challenges, left a lasting impact on countless young lives. During his time at Kennedy, Todd also served as the high school r***e team and golf coach. He concluded his distinguished 35-year career as a special education teacher at Bunker Hill and Holy Cross High School.

Following his retirement, Todd embraced his role as a proud snowbird, spending summers in Harwich on Cape Cod and winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He cherished the friendships he built in both communities and especially enjoyed the relaxed coastal lifestyle, whether golfing, fishing, or simply spending time with friends and family. These years brought him great joy, many laughs and lasting memories.

Todd will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who treasured time with his family. Nothing brought him greater pride or happiness than his grandchildren, Declan, Callen, Kayla, Hadleigh, and Ryan. He loved attending their sporting events, school activities, and celebrations, always offering encouragement and support. Todd took great pride in each of their accomplishments and never missed an opportunity to share stories about them with family and friends. Whether traveling together, spending time on Cape Cod, or simply enjoying everyday moments, he cherished every minute he spent with them. His love, guidance, and unwavering support will remain a lasting legacy in their lives. An avid sportsman, Todd could often be found on the golf course or enjoying fishing at his home on Cape Cod.

In addition to his wife, Rose, Todd is survived by his sons, Gregory and his wife Ashley of Lynnfield, Massachusetts, and Sean and his wife Gina of New Fairfield, Connecticut; his beloved grandchildren, Declan, Callen, Kayla, Hadleigh, and Ryan; his sisters-in-law, Sue Monaghan, Peggy Taylor, and Addie Harris; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Todd was predeceased by his brothers, Donnie and Bill Monaghan; and his in-laws, Dora Spada, Hazel Mercier, Bill Harris, Charles Harris, Ray Harris, Joseph Harris, Thomas Harris, David Harris, James Harris, and Gladys Cipollone Gaudiosi.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 24, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Bergin Funeral Home, 290 East Main Street, Waterbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held after at 10:00 a.m. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Burial of cremains will be at a later date at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Watertown.

Violet J Russo

Woodbury - Violet June Russo (Barlett), 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 11, 2026. Born in Waterbury, CT on November 8, 1929, to Cecil and Florence Barlett and adopted by Brownis Yakulevich.

Violet was a force of nature who lived a life as vibrant as the flowers and birds she so dearly loved. She was the steady heart and soul of her family for 96 remarkable years.

A woman of immense patience, creativity, and quiet strength, she witnessed nearly a century of history, yet her focus always remained on the simple beauty of a home filled with laughter and love. Whether she was crafting, cooking, or sharing a favorite recipe, or simply offering a listening ear, she taught us that true legacy is not found in titles, but in the kindness, we show one another. Her resilience and unwavering spirit will continue to guide us as we carry her lessons of strength, patience, and faith in our hearts forever.

Aurea Peguero

Aurea Peguero, a beloved baker and cherished matriarch, was born on December 8, 1928 and she joyfully embraced life until her passing at her home in Waterbury, Connecticut, on February 21, 2026. She was surrounded by the love and warmth of her family, leaving behind a legacy that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.

Aurea was not just a baker; she was an artist in the kitchen, creating dishes that brought everyone running to her table. Her culinary talents were matched only by her infectious joy for life. In her presence, you could always find music playing softly in the background, accompanied by her sing-alongs and dances that filled the air with laughter and happiness. Cooking was not just a hobby for Aurea; it was a way to express her love for her family, friends, and all who crossed her path.

She is survived by her devoted son, Antonio Megret, and her loving daughters, Aurea Ivonne Megret, Marianela Megret, and Luisa Susana Megret. Aurea's life was enriched by her twelve grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, who were a source of immense pride and joy for her. She shared countless memories with them, each gathering revealing her unwavering support and boundless affection.

Aurea joins her dear departed family members, including her father, Eliseo Pimental, her mother, Emilia Peguero, her husband, Carlos Mariano Megret, and her son, Jose Megret, in eternal peace. The love that once connected them in life now inspires those they left behind and will continue to shine through the stories and memories shared by her family.
