Dreams Really Do Come True!
The Presbyterian Homes & Services Liberty Dreams Program empowers those we serve to look beyond their everyday routines and embrace opportunities that make their dreams for better living a reality—creating moments of joy, purpose, and possibility.
That was certainly the case for Lanny, whose Liberty Dream came to life during a special outing with Life Enrichment Director Leann and his sister, Nancy. Their adventure included lunch at Denny's, followed by a visit to the New Berlin Lionel Train Club exhibit.
Lunch was a special treat, as Lanny enjoyed his favorite pancakes before spending the afternoon admiring the impressive model train displays. His favorite trains at the exhibit were the coal train, the orange Hiawatha passenger train, and the fun circus train. The exhibit was everything he had hoped for and more.
Lanny has been fascinated by trains for "as long as I can remember," he says with a smile. As a young boy, he faced significant health challenges that made school and building friendships difficult. During that time, a caring physician arranged for him to take his very first train ride. That experience sparked a lifelong passion for trains that continues to this day.
One of Lanny's favorite places to watch trains is Duplainville Road in Waukesha County, where rail enthusiasts can often see 20 or more trains pass through in a single day, including both passenger and freight trains.
He also enjoys watching trains in downtown Waukesha, a view he can often enjoy from his home at Avalon Square. On a beautiful afternoon, you're likely to find Lanny watching the tracks, eagerly waiting for the next train to roll by.
For Lanny, this Liberty Dream wasn't just an afternoon outing—it was an opportunity to celebrate a lifelong passion, spend quality time with loved ones, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Dreams really do come true.
