Vitamin A, steroids, and antibiotics do not prevent or cure measles. There is no medication that replaces MMR vaccination for preventing measles.
Vitamin A may be recommended by a healthcare provider as part of treatment for some people with measles, but it does not prevent or cure measles. High doses of vitamin A can be very dangerous and cause serious health problems like liver damage and bone weakness.
Antibiotics do not treat the measles virus but may be used if a bacterial infection develops.
Steroids do not cure or prevent measles.
The best protection against measles is the MMR vaccination.
If you think you or your child may have measles, call your healthcare provider before going to a medical office or emergency department.
