Not Interested in Dinner? It Could Be Pain.

When a dog or cat suddenly—or gradually—loses interest in food, it’s easy to chalk it up to pickiness or getting older. But a change in appetite can sometimes be an early sign of pain or discomfort.

-Pain can reduce the desire to eat. Discomfort can affect the neurochemical pathways involved in stress, inflammation, and mood, which may suppress appetite.

-Eating may become physically uncomfortable. Dogs experiencing chronic pain may avoid positions that worsen their discomfort, such as lowering their head to a food bowl or climbing stairs to reach their feeding area.

-The source of pain may not be obvious. Dental problems, neck discomfort, or abdominal inflammation can make chewing, swallowing, or even approaching food uncomfortable—leading to reduced appetite.

A change in appetite is worth paying attention to. If your dog is eating less than usual, especially alongside other changes in behavior or mobility, it may be a sign that something more is going on.

🎓 Happy Graduation Day, Oliver! 🎓

Oliver can be a nervous boy, but he and his owners did an amazing job throughout his rehabilitation journey. After being diagnosed with a cranial cruciate ligament tear and undergoing surgical repair (TPLO), Oliver worked hard and made fantastic progress with his rehab.

We’re so proud of how far he has come! He is now back to running around the yard, playing, and enjoying life with his housemates. Way to go, Oliver! 🐾🎉

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month🐾

Just like us, animals experience pain—but their signs can often be subtle. Slowing down on walks, reluctance to jump or play, changes in behavior, or simply seeming “not quite themselves” can all be signs of discomfort caused by arthritis, chronic conditions, or other underlying issues.

The good news? There are many ways to help. From medications and rehabilitation to acupuncture and massage, a personalized pain-management plan can help pets feel more comfortable, active, and happy.

This month, let’s work together to recognize signs of pain and address them early, Because every pet deserves to feel their very best. 💛
