Hip Dysplasia in Dogs

A developmental condition where the femur and pelvis don’t fit properly. Instead of forming a stable, smooth-moving joint, the hip is loose or unstable. With every step, abnormal movement occurs within the joint.

This makes the joint loose or unstable, leading to:
🔥 Inflammation
🦴Cartilage damage
🦴 Osteoarthritis over time

It’s not just arthritis—it’s abnormal hip development that can cause joint issues.
Signs include:
🐾 Stiffness after rest
🐾 Difficulty rising or climbing stairs
🐾 Reluctance to jump
🐾 Muscle loss in hind legs
🐾 Swaying gait

If your dog shows these signs, don't hesitate to give us a call!

it’s AAHA-Accredited Hospital Day! 🎉🐶🐱

Being AAHA-accredited means our clinic voluntarily passes hundreds of strict quality standards for pet care, surgery, pain management, and facility safety.

Only about 12–15% of vet clinics choose to go through this process to become accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. We do it because your pets deserve the absolute highest standard of care—from advanced safety protocols to top-tier medicine.

A few simple steps today can make all the difference if your pet ever goes missing.
✔️ Make sure your pet is wearing a collar with an up-to-date ID tag.
✔️ Keep your contact information current on their microchip.
✔️ Take clear, recent photos of your pet.
✔️ Check fences, gates, and doors regularly to help prevent escapes.

If your pet does go missing, act quickly! Contact your local shelters, notify your veterinarian, post on local lost pet pages, and ask your neighbors to keep an eye out.

July is National Pet Hydration Awareness Month! 💦🐾

A few hot weather reminders:
💧 Keep fresh water available at all times
🌳 Provide shade and cool places to rest
🚗 Never leave pets in hot cars — even for a minute
🐾 Check pavement before walks
☀️ Avoid outdoor exercise during the hottest parts of the day
🧊 Try frozen treats, splash pads, or kiddie pools for extra fun!

Signs your pet may be overheating can include heavy panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or acting confused. When in doubt, cool them down and contact a veterinarian right away.

Yesterday, my hiking buddy and I hit the trails, and I came across this helpful post from NCDR. It's a great reminder that when you're planning a hike, it's not just about bringing enough water for yourself—you need to make sure your four-legged adventure partner stays hydrated too.

Whether it's a short walk or a longer trek, having enough water for your pup can make all the difference. Take a look at these guidelines before your next outdoor adventure, and help keep your best friend safe, healthy, and happy on the trail! 🥾🐾💧

🐾 Behind the Scenes at Vanguard 🐾

Cats need rehab and hydrotherapy too! 😺✨ We're excited to share that the very first session for this brave feline was a fantastic success! Our furry friend confidently took to the underwater treadmill, proving that cats can do just about anything their canine counterparts can.

Hydrotherapy offers incredible benefits thanks to the unique properties of water. The buoyancy supports the body, making movement easier and more comfortable, while reducing stress on joints. It's an effective, gentle way for pets to exercise, recover, and regain strength—all in a calming environment. We’re thrilled to see such promising progress and look forward to more successful sessions ahead!
