Welcome to the team, Austin Neal!

Austin joins Above + Beyond Cancer as our newest team member and we're so excited to have him join the organization! Austin is a young professional within the nonprofit world with almost a decade worth of experience. With a background in nonprofit fundraising, community engagement, and donor stewardship, Austin is committed to connecting people with opportunities to make a lasting impact.

Austin is a Des Moines native and graduated from Waukee High School in 2015. He and his wife, Nicole welcomed their first baby boy, August James Neal November 3rd, 2025 and are very, very active! Austin races bikes for Team OYRB, completed his first Ironman 70.3 last summer, and will be racing in duathlons this season.

As Austin joins Above + Beyond Cancer as the Annual Giving + Outreach Manager, his passion and care for the mission is ever-present. He believes that every act of generosity has the power to create hope and transform lives, leading to a more fulfilled life. Austin is excited to work alongside supporters, volunteers, and community partners to help expand Above + Beyond Cancer's impact and ensure more individuals have access to life-changing programs.

Monday morning inspiration for you - a poem from one of our favorites, Mary Oliver. Have a great day!

Oh do you have time
to linger
for just a little while
out of your busy

and very important day
for the goldfinches
that have gathered
in a field of thistles

for a musical battle,
to see who can sing
the highest note,
or the lowest,

or the most expressive of mirth,
or the most tender?
Their strong, blunt beaks
drink the air

as they strive
melodiously
not for your sake
and not for mine

and not for the sake of winning
but for sheer delight and gratitude –
believe us, they say,
it is a serious thing

just to be alive
on this fresh morning
in the broken world.
I beg of you,

do not walk by
without pausing
to attend to this
rather ridiculous performance.

It could mean something.
It could mean everything.
It could be what Rilke meant, when he wrote:
