Why Restorative Yoga Belongs at Rebel Wellness

Because some bodies don’t need another “push harder” moment.
They need permission to finally exhale.

At Rebel Wellness, restorative yoga isn’t about twisting yourself into a human pretzel or proving flexibility on Instagram. This is nervous system work. Real rest. The kind most people don’t realize they’ve been starving for.

A lot of humans are walking around in survival mode and calling it “being productive.” Tight jaw. Shallow breathing. Always on edge. Can’t relax even when they sit down. The body keeps score, and eventually it starts yelling through tension, headaches, exhaustion, anxiety, poor sleep, inflammation, and burnout.

That’s where restorative yoga comes in.

This practice uses supported postures, breath, stillness, and intentional slowing down to help the body shift out of fight-or-flight and into a state where healing can actually happen.

At Rebel Wellness, restorative yoga is offered because healing should not always feel like punishment.

I’ve spent years inside this conversation.
Not just reading studies. Living it.
As someone who survived trauma, worked in corrections for nearly two decades, and has now spent 17 years working hands-on with human bodies every single day… I personally believe the body does keep the score.

Maybe not like a filing cabinet storing memories in your shoulder blade.

But I’ve watched what happens when a nervous system has been carrying survival for years.
I’ve felt the way breath changes when someone finally feels safe.
I’ve watched hips release after years of hypervigilance.
I’ve seen tears come out during simple neck work because the body finally stopped bracing long enough to let go.

You cannot separate the mind from the body.
You cannot separate trauma from the nervous system.
And you definitely cannot convince me that years of chronic stress, fear, abuse, burnout, grief, suppression, and survival don’t leave fingerprints on the body.

Science evolves. Language evolves.
But lived experience matters too.
The body speaks in tension.
In fatigue.
In inflammation.
In shutdown.
In holding patterns.
In exhaustion that sleep alone doesn’t fix.

And healing?
Healing often begins the moment the body no longer feels like it has to fight alone.

That’s what I believe.
Not from a textbook.
From the table.
From my own body.
From years of listening to others finally exhale.

Your body is not weak.
It adapted to survive.
And yes… I believe it remembers.
