This is another one of those less-than-popular yoga concepts.

We're responsible to do our work in this world, from earning a living to doing our internal/self work.

But we've no right to the fruits of our labors.

Another way to say this: we don't get to control the outcome.

Not clinging to outcome is one way to practice Ishvara Pranidhana, or surrender to the divine, the last Niyama of Yoga.

My Teacher Michael used to say that the path of Yoga isn't for everybody. Isvara Pranidhana is one of those places. We a...

My Teacher Michael used to say that the path of Yoga isn't for everybody. Isvara Pranidhana is one of those places.

We are so often willful and ego-led. I want this and I don't want that.

Yoga asks us to come into acceptance with how things are and move forward from there. Staying connected to the Divine helps us do this.

Remarkable freedom comes from this simple act. Instead of deciding where to go and what to do, you simply have to respond to the life folding in front of you.

Or guilt?
Or shame?
Or desire?

Or any other of the many things to which we cling?

Take it a step further and ask why? Why am I holding onto this?

is particuarly helpful, because our resentments so often point to places where better boundaries will serve us.

This is one example of how to practice , which translates to "self-study" and refers to both studying yourself and studying sacred texts. Svadhyaya is one of the , Yoga's great cultivation practices.

Tarka is a yogic practice of thoroughly reflecting on a situation.

In my lineage, it's suggested as a evening practice of reviewing the day, and what you learned about yourself or the world as a result of what happened.

It's also an example of Step 10 in traditions, where we take inventory of our actions and promptly right our missteps.

Amazing, how continued self knowledge leads to actions that can even heal addictions.

Tarka is one example of how to practice , which translates to "self-study" and refers to both studying yourself and studying sacred texts. Svadhyaya is one of the , Yoga's great cultivation practices.

Family history is a juicy avenue for .

Seeing the patterns in our lineage makes us aware of our tendencies, and helps us to heal along generational lines. If you're aware of it, you can do something about it.

This is where where generational tramua meets cycle-stopping healing.

offers this terrific structure for a practice.

At different times during the day, check in with yourself by asking these questions.

Create a habit of regular self check-ins, when you're not particularly emotional, to build the muscles that allows you to stay grounded when you are.

Staying self-connected also makes us more likely to speak from a place of self during a conflict, when we're tempted to point fingers or hurl blame at another.

This is one example of how to practice , which translates to "self-study" and refers to both studying yourself and studying sacred texts. Svadhyaya is one of the , Yoga's great cultivation practices.
