𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐀𝐠𝐞

As you get older, you're losing muscle mass and physical strength.

Sarcopenia is the progressive loss of muscle strength that can occur with aging. It can also increase the risks of falling and injuries. So, what can you do to prevent muscle loss?

Start with your diet: Protein and Vitamin D are two essential nutrients for maintaining muscle strength.

Go red: Eating vegetables that are a deep red hue signal high levels of beta-carotene, which improve muscle health.

Drink water: Don't forget to drink plenty of water. The older you get the more prone you are to dehydration.

Try and exercise: Weight-bearing exercises help prevent muscle loss and improve your strength and stability.

Avoiding the flu is the best reason to get vaccinated.

But did you know that flu vaccines may offer even more health benefits you might not realize?

Flu shots may help protect the brain from dementia. Some of the evidence comes from a study in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease comparing vaccinated older adults from their unvaccinated peers, it was found that those who often said yes to a flu shot had a 40% lower risk of developing Alzheimer's Disease.

Flu vaccines may help with heart attack and stroke prevention. There's evidence that the flu can trigger a heart attack or a stroke in people already at risk according to AARP.

Getting vaccinated may help prevent the flu from making other health problems worse. Staying up to date on flu shots may lower the risk that the flu will worsen some chronic health problems.

This event will be held at the Winnemucca Indoor Event Center form 4pm - 8pm. Doors close at 8pm sharp!

Our EMS team will be there to help make the process as smooth as possible. From assisting with flu shots and paperwork to keeping supplies stocked and stations ready to go.

Last Friday was the Harmony Manor Car Show & more! And we loved welcoming our community to HGH’s West Campus for the afternoon.

From the beautiful vehicles brought out by community members and the Koyote Kruisers to the food trucks with filling meals. Along with a face painting booth and games to play on the side of the show, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

However, the most special part of the day was seeing our residents take part in the fun.
And, of course, they chose the Car Show winner! Their votes went to none other than Marsha Forman for her beautiful pink Nash Metropolitan nicknamed Miss Mabel!

We would like to thank all of our vendors who attended the event: Dole Twisted Treats, Back Porch BBQ and Grill, Dona Chona, Fizz & Sips, We Must Be Nuts and Poured Out.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this event possible! We’re especially grateful to the HGH Employees Committee for providing meals for our residents, the Winnemucca Host Lions Club for their donation to Harmony Manor, Gloria and Harold Gudmundson for donating snacks and bingo prizes to our residents, Brian Williams for his traffic control, and Desert Sage Designs, NV for donating the car show trophy.

We’re already looking forward to doing it all again next year!
