A new hospital resource so nice, we had to see it twice! We loved touring Orlando Health Watson Clinic Lakeland Highlands with Better Living for Seniors of Polk County. It is clear that immense planning and attention to detail went into this hospital’s design. It will be a much needed resource for Polk County residents.

Very important tips!

Very important tips!

Hurricane season is officially here. Let’s get prepared together!

For older adults, planning for severe weather isn't just about stocking up on canned food—it requires a little extra care around health, mobility, and communication. If you or a loved one are a senior, taking these steps at the start of the season ensures peace of mind later:

💊 Secure a 14-day supply of meds: Talk to your doctor or pharmacist early about getting an emergency supply of critical prescriptions.
📑 Organize vital paperwork: Keep copies of your IDs, medical records, insurance cards, and doctor contact lists in a waterproof, easy-to-grab folder.
🔋 Plan for medical equipment power: If you rely on oxygen, a motorized wheelchair, or refrigerated medication, register immediately with your local utility company’s "critical load" program and plan for a backup power source.
🚗 Arrange transportation early: If you do not drive, pre-arrange a ride with a family member, neighbor, or local senior transit service in case an evacuation order is issued.
🤝 Build a personal support network: Designate at least three local people (neighbors, family, or friends) who have your spare key and will check on you immediately before and after a storm.

Planning ahead ensures you stay safe, no matter what the weather brings.

“My sister had a less common variant form of Alzheimer’s and lived in a memory care facility for 9+ years. I live out of state and found the need for a new care management team. The Health Coach was recommended and I was happy beyond expectations…more than I hoped for. Tanya has gathered a well organized, qualified, professional team who are highly empathetic to both the client’s and family’s needs. Katelyn, my sister’s care manager, is excellent in her role. Kind, reliable, thoughtful, and responsive are only a few of the many words to describe her. She was consistent and excellent in keeping the lines of communication open with the family. As my sister’s Alzheimer’s progressed, Katelyn skillfully handled and navigated through whatever issues arose. Some examples are: the need for official ID (oh, the amount of red tape that required), mediation matters between family and facility, the need to relocate to a new facility, the bringing in of HOSPICE, and the end of life matters including the AFTER the end of life matters such as clearing my sister’s room, donations etc. Katelyn is truly an amazing individual with terrific organizational skills, and the Health Coach is a wonderful asset on which you may rely to always do what is in the client’s best interest. I would highly and wholeheartedly recommend the Health Coach to anyone who is in need of a care management team.” - Howard B.

This is a huge issue that we see very often- write your congressman to force more attention to this medical crisis. As care managers we help advocate for these denials and write very thorough clinical appeals which often still get denied for clients who very much need rehab and other services that are getting denied.

HHS-OIG just released two reports: one of the reports found that the three largest Medicare managed care companies in the U.S. denied enrollees long term & rehab hospital care at some of the highest rates. The other report found concerning managed care skilled nursing denials. Read more: https://direc.to/fW5R

“For nearly six years, from the time our mother was 90 until she passed at 95, Tanya Jeckovich and her team at The Health Coach became so much more than caregivers; they became an extension of our family. My name is Bruce, and my family and I live in San Diego, California, while my sister Cindy lives in New Jersey. Our mother lived in Lakeland, Florida, and knowing Tanya was there caring for her gave all of us tremendous peace of mind despite the distance between us.
Our mother was strong-willed and not always the easiest person to care for, especially when she was tired, sick, or frustrated. Through it all, Tanya consistently showed extraordinary patience, compassion, dignity, kindness, and genuine companionship. Whenever there was a concern, Tanya was the person we called because we trusted her completely.
Over the years, Tanya did far more than provide day-to-day care. She assisted in coordinating several moves to different assisted living facilities, helped manage and attend numerous doctors visits, and guided our family through many difficult transitions with professionalism and compassion. She helped our mother prepare for family visits, holidays, and celebrations, but more importantly, she helped her maintain her pride, comfort, independence, and sense of connection during the later years of her life. Tanya’s care went far beyond basic caregiving; she truly cared about our mother as a person.
Our family will always be grateful for the love, support, compassion, and companionship Tanya and her team showed during such an important chapter of our mother’s life. It is rare to find people who do this work with such genuine heart, and we feel incredibly fortunate that Tanya was part of our mother’s journey.” - Bruce N.
