CIL in Central Florida We are a private, non-profit organization that was founded by Central Floridians dedicated to helping people with disabilities.

CIL is a cross-disability service agency with a mission to create opportunities for disability inclusion. It serves individuals with any type of disability of any age residing in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Polk, Hardee, Highlands, and DeSoto counties. CIL has two office locations dedicated to serving the Central Florida region, each of which have specific programs and services available to their surrounding community.

It’s Tech Tuesday, and today we’re highlighting the Echo Show and the accessibility features that can help support daily routines, communication, connection, and independent living.

The Echo Show includes accessibility options such as Tap to Alexa, Adaptive Listening, Preferred Speaking Rate, Alexa Captioning, Call Captioning, Closed Captioning, Show and Tell, VoiceView screen reader, Screen Magnifier, Real Time Text, Color Inversion, Color Correction and more.

As we wrap up Disability Pride Month, we are reminded that accessibility should be built into the technology, spaces, programs, and systems we use every day.

As we enter the final week of Disability Pride Month, we are reminded that disability pride is more than a moment on the calendar.

Disability Pride is about visibility, identity, accessibility, advocacy, inclusion, dignity, and belonging...and those values matter all year long.

The work does not end when July ends. People with disabilities deserve accessible homes, workplaces, schools, transportation, healthcare, events, technology, communication, and community spaces every day of the year.

This Mission Monday, we invite you to turn awareness into action. Support disability inclusion in Central Florida by donating, volunteering, sharing our mission, becoming a sponsor, or joining us at our Power of Independence event.

This Thankful Thursday, we are celebrating our incredible DeafVoice team and the meaningful work they do to support Deaf and hard of hearing individuals across Central Florida.

Through advocacy, education, communication access, resource navigation, community connection and programs like ASL Riot, our DeafVoice team helps create spaces where Deaf and hard of hearing community members can feel included and empowered.

Communication access is a critical part of independent living. It impacts healthcare, employment, education, emergency preparedness, family support, civic engagement, and full community participation.

It’s Tech Tuesday, and today we’re featuring the Vibio Bluetooth Bed Shaker, an assistive technology device available at CIL through Midland RDC and FAAST.

The Vibio is designed to provide tactile alerts through strong vibrations, helping users wake up or receive important notifications in a way that does not rely only on sound. It connects through Bluetooth and can be controlled through a mobile app, allowing users to manage alarms and receive vibration alerts for calls and messages.

This type of assistive technology can be helpful for people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, heavy sleepers, students, or anyone who benefits from vibration-based alerts as part of their daily routine.

During Disability Pride Month, we are highlighting tools that support accessibility, choice, communication access, confidence, and independent living.

Join the Center for Independent Living in Central Florida and SouthState Bank for Banking 101, a free educational workshop designed to provide practical financial knowledge in a welcoming and accessible environment.

Barriers can look like a building without a ramp, a video without captions, an event without interpreters, a workplace without accommodations, a home that is no longer accessible, or a community that does not consider the needs of people with disabilities.

When we create accessible spaces, inclusive programs, and supportive systems, we help build a Central Florida where everyone belongs.
