Dizzy When You Stand? This Could Be Why
A 78-year-old man went to the hospital after becoming dizzy and nauseous when standingāand his blood pressure was low.
When this happens, especially in older adults, one of the first things to review is the medication list. Blood pressure medications, diuretics, and certain heart medications may contribute to dizziness or low blood pressure.
In this case, a recently started medicationāranolazineābecame an important part of the medication review.
If youāre suddenly feeling dizzy when standing, donāt assume itās simply āgetting older.ā Talk with your healthcare provider about your symptoms, heart health, and medications. Never stop or change a prescription without speaking with your clinician.
