You know this child.
The one whose symptoms never fit neatly into one box. The one who has seen specialist after specialist, but you still feel like a piece is missing.
These are the kids I love caring for.
After 12+ years as a pediatrician, academic attending, and hospitalist, I learned to love the complicated cases. Functional medicine gave me another lens for them.
Not just: “What diagnosis fits these symptoms?”
But also: “Why is this happening in this child?”
Genetics matter. But for many pediatric conditions, they’re only one piece of the puzzle. Nutrition, immune function, the microbiome, environment, sleep, stress, development, and exposures can matter too.
That’s where my work lives:
🩺 Pediatric expertise
🔬 Evidence-informed medicine
🧩 Functional medicine
👧🏽 Whole-child care
I’m not choosing between conventional pediatrics and functional medicine.
I use both.
Sometimes the answer is medication. Sometimes it’s removing a trigger. Sometimes it’s finding what was missed.
And sometimes, it’s finally connecting the dots.
Good medicine starts with good questions.
