Hope does not always arrive like a miracle — sometimes it shows up as a choice. In this episode of “Hope Starts With Us,” NAMI CEO Daniel H. Gillison Jr. talks with actor, musician, and NAMI ambassador Joshua Bassett about his mental health journey, from experiencing heart failure and septic shock to navigating addiction, shame, and public scrutiny. Bassett shares how faith, community, creativity, and vulnerability have helped him heal, why connection is essential for recovery, and how choosing hope — even in inches — can make it possible to keep going.

Don’t just raise awareness. CREATE IMPACT.

Awareness is only the starting point. True change happens when we turn that awareness into action—by supporting one another, fighting stigma, and demanding better access to care.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, challenge yourself to do more than just share a post. Advocate for the resources our communities deserve and let your story be heard. Your voice has the power to change minds, policies, and lives.

How are you making an impact this month? Let us know in the comments below!
