Please join us in welcoming Christine Morrison, RN, BSN to Cottage Hospital!

Christine brings 35 years of nursing experience and a wealth of knowledge from a variety of specialties, including CVICU, Burn Care, Emergency Medicine, Neurology, the Operating Room, and General Surgery. After spending much of her career in larger medical centers, she returned to the area 20 years ago and joined Cottage Hospital's Operating Room team.

Reflecting on her journey, Christine shared, "I came to see the immense benefits of the small rural hospital. While I left for a short time, I knew I would always come home to Cottage."

Her dedication to patient care, extensive clinical experience, and passion for rural healthcare make her a wonderful addition to our team, and we're excited to have her continue serving our community.

💡 Fun Fact: Before becoming a nurse, Christine was a professional firefighter and later spent time as a semi-professional sailor on the West Coast before returning home to New Hampshire.

Last week, Cottage Hospital staff participated in AVADE® (Awareness, Violence, Aggression, Defense, and Escape) training, an evidence-based program designed specifically for healthcare professionals.

AVADE provides staff with practical skills to recognize early warning signs of escalating behavior, de-escalate potentially dangerous situations, and respond safely and effectively when faced with aggression or violence in the workplace.

In healthcare, ensuring a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff is essential. Trainings like AVADE help empower our team with the confidence, awareness, and tools needed to navigate challenging situations while continuing to provide compassionate, high-quality care.

Thank you to all of our staff members who participated and to our instructors for helping strengthen workplace safety across Cottage Hospital.

At Cottage Hospital, providing exceptional care starts with investing in our team.

Recently, staff from across the organization participated in a series of trainings focused on patient safety, emergency preparedness, leadership, teamwork, and customer service. These sessions included Safe Patient Handling, Emergency Evacuation Procedures, Code Alert Training, Emergency Planning, Fire & Hazard Safety (PASS & RACE), and our bi-monthly Customer Service Training.

Staff also explored the principles of Bob Farrell's *"Give 'Em the Pickle,"* focusing on leadership, teamwork, and creating positive experiences for those we serve. In addition, our team continues to embrace *The Cottage Way*—a commitment to fostering a culture of compassion, support, and respect for our patients, colleagues, and community members.

Through ongoing education and training, we remain dedicated to ensuring a safe environment, delivering exceptional care, and strengthening the connections that make Cottage Hospital a special place to work and receive care.

What an incredible day! We are so grateful to everyone who came out to run, walk, cheer, volunteer, and support Cottage Hospital. Community events like this are only possible because of amazing people like you, and we truly couldn’t do it without your support.

This year’s Any Which Way 5K helped raise funds for Cottage Hospital’s Operating Room renovation project, bringing us one step closer to our overall fundraising goal and helping us continue to enhance the care we provide to our community.

As Hospital Week comes to a close, we want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to every member of the Cottage Hospital team for all that you do, each and every day. Your dedication, compassion, and commitment to caring for our community do not go unnoticed, and we are incredibly grateful for each of you.

This week was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our amazing staff! On Thursday, our Senior Leadership Team served breakfast for employees as a small token of appreciation, and on Friday, staff received Cottage Hospital-themed gifts to wrap up the week. Our Employee Association also held their bi-annual basket raffle, sending some lucky team members home with even more fun prizes!

All in all, it was a fantastic week of celebrating the people who make Cottage Hospital such a special place. 💙

And the excitement isn’t over yet! Tomorrow, May 17, is our annual Any Which Way 5K & Walk-a-thon! 🏃‍♀️☀️
