Women surgeons are leaving. One of the many reasons: navigating systemic double standards.

Women surgeons, what have your experiences been?

Sage advice for every surgeon.

Listen to Surgeons with Purpose episode 99: Not Getting Greedy with the Last 5% with Dr. Won Kim wherever you get your podcasts.

When clients come across my concept of The Surgeon Belief Triad, they tell me: “That’s exactly how I think but I never put it into words before!”

Three questions. Before you book a surgery.

It takes thirty seconds.

It has saved patients from unnecessary surgery and saved me from unnecessary complications.

Belief in Self: How confident am I in this specific operation, today, for this patient, with the support I have at this facility?

Belief in Surgery: On a scale of 1-10, how convinced am I (not my mentors, not the guidelines) that this surgery will genuinely help resolve this patient’s problem?

Belief in Patient: What is my rapport? Do they understand what is actually happening to their body? Do I feel genuine ownership of their care? Do we share mutual trust?

A shaky answer on any one of the three is not a reason to panic.

It is simply a reason to pause.

The surgeon who checks in before every case is playing a different game than the one who doesn’t.

Save this. You’ll want it before your next case.

Why do you do what you do?

The answer to that question is the foundation of your brand.

Many mistakes were made that day. Here are just a few.

Master these 3 essentials, and success in surgery is inevitable.

The reason I became a surgeon coach and my big why.

Resources I’ve created for surgeons:

1. My podcast, Surgeons with Purpose. Start at episode one, a deep dive on imposter syndrome. Then, anxiety in the OR, shame, toxic martyrdom, self-concept…all the mindset topics surgeons need.

2. My lifetime access + group coaching program, Empowered Surgeons Group. This program contains all of the essential lessons that transformed me from a terrified, paranoid, shell of myself into an empowered, fearless Asset. Comment “empowered” to join us.

3. 1:1 coaching. My practice is full, but you can get on my waiting list through my website (sign-up at link in bio or go to melthackercoaching.com).

4. Bi-annual surgeon retreats. Next stop, Norway in August.

If you are struggling or frankly suffering, you’re not alone and there is a solution ❤️
