-- Meet Our Team --

Jamin and Kara Mohler are the owners and faces behind Shaw & Sons Funeral Home.

Jamin and Kara believe that being a local business is much more than being "just another funeral home." It's about showing up for the community, when community members need it the most and giving back along the way.

Jamin lives for connection and serving those around him. You’ve likely seen him working alongside families in all roles around the funeral home, doing everything he can to make those around him feel valued and appreciated -- both coworkers and families.

Kara keeps things running behind the scenes, while supporting Jamin in all of his endeavors. She handles the bookkeeping for Shaw & Sons and brings her own attention to detail and dedication to everything she does.

Together, Jamin and Kara are proud parents of their six kids and proud grandparents to Ivy. Family is at the heart of everything they do. Their children have grown up watching them serve others, and whenever possible, the whole family gets to be part of the Shaw & Sons mission. For Jamin and Kara, there’s something special about building a business their family can grow alongside.

That’s why Shaw & Sons is so proud to be family owned and operated. It’s not just a title, it’s a reflection of the people, values, and heart behind who we are. 🤍

As our community knows, we share ownership & staff with Brookside. So this post includes the dedicated team at Shaw & Sons as well.
We’re grateful for the atmosphere that allows us to serve families well from whichever location they choose.

It is the simple things.
Today was not about a grand gesture. It was about a simple task—closing a casket and locking it with a casket key. But today, that simple task made a profound difference in the life of a 7-year-old grandson.
I'm incredibly proud of Jaron. Seeing a grieving child, he gently invited him to come forward one last time and help close the casket.
Maybe it's because he has watched me do that.
Maybe it's because he has closed his own grandpa's casket.
Or maybe he was simply born with a heart for people.
I believe it is all three.
We believe the smallest moments often become the ones families remember forever. Going out of our way—even in the simplest things—can make the biggest difference.
One of our team members texted me afterward to tell me what had happened. In her words "Jaron rocked this service....he was so gentle with him and helped him the whole way."
Later, that little boy's mother thanked our staff and shared that the moment will forever be a lasting and meaningful memory for her son.

That is not something you'll ever find on a price list.
That is not something corporate spreadsheets assign value to.
They can't teach that in Mortuary College.

But it is who we are.
Simply people caring for people.
And that's what makes all the difference.
Great job, Jaron!!

Having served 2 Gold Star families, we are keenly aware that freedom is not free. We salute those who have sacrificed to secure our life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, in recognition that all men (and women) are created equal.
God Bless America and all who have given their life for our great nation! We remember.

Small Business Appreciation Week means a lot to us at Shaw & Sons.
And truthfully, we have never really viewed this as simply “supporting our business.” We see it as families allowing our small-town, family-owned funeral home the honor of caring for the people they love most.
We are the people you see at the grocery store, in church, at community events, and cheering on local baseball teams. We live here, raise our families here, and serve here.
Families should feel comfortable looking beyond the sign out front and learning who is truly behind the funeral home - the people, the ownership, the values, and the reputation guiding the care of their loved one.
We will continue to openly highlight the value of local ownership, transparency, authenticity, and our passion for funeral service rooted in community... the old school way.
That trust will never be taken lightly. Thank you for continuing to believe in local, community-focused care. We're glad to be different.

This evening we celebrated our team member, Amy Eldridge Denham and her completion of all state requirements and exams to become a fully licensed Funeral Director.
Having spent her life in ministry and in service to others, she is a natural at caring for our community. At our funeral homes, we hire heart and then help coach and develop skills, because the reverse is not possible in our profession. Heart and calling matter and Amy fits in well.
Join us in congratulating her on this significant accomplishment!

On this National Funeral Director and Mortician Recognition Day, I want to pause and actually reflect on how blessed we are to serve in such a rewarding profession.
Those of us who choose to be involved in our communities and to give back to our profession at the state level, know firsthand how rewarding this calling actually is.
And last night was incredibly special when Ivy made her debut with the Washington State Funeral Directors Association - WSFDA. The relationships that our family enjoys with our colleagues throughout this state is a testament to the blessing of shared mission and purpose.
Thank you friends, for doing life with us and serving your communities.
