🌟week 3 update🌟

This past week has felt like things are starting to get back to my idea of normal!

I have been able to get up and go upstairs on my own. I have been able to make myself and the kids breakfast and lunch. As much as I have needed, and appreciated the help, it is very nice to feel like a mother again.

I finally got out of the house, for something other than a doctors appointment. We took the boys to the fair. Which ironically was my first real outing last year after the initial amputations. We had a good time being out as a family. As the pain was controlled, I can say it was exhausting. I’m glad I’m feeling well enough physically and emotionally to get out, so hopefully I will be able to do more of that relatively soon.

My swelling in my right leg is finally starting to go down. Hopefully once it does my rods will heal into place the way they should. It is so crazy to see metal coming out of my legs, but I am so excited for the opportunity it brings!

🌟Week Two Update🌟

What an eventful week it has been. I have made so much progress this week, and I’m incredibly proud of my own strength and endurance.

This week I retaught myself how to transfer to my wheelchair, my husband’s truck and to my stair lift. The hardest part about our home is that we live in a split level, and for the last week I’ve been stuck down stairs in Chris’s man cave in a hospital bed. Today I decided that I was ready to give the stair lift a try, and I’m so glad I did. It took me longer than normal to transfer to and from my different chairs, but I did it. I’m currently sitting up in my recliner on the second floor of our home, and my mental health feels that it has improved tremendously.

Yesterday I took the two hour drive too and from Philadelphia to meet with my surgical team. My Dr. said everything is healing well. I am still very swollen on my right side, and I have a lot of drainage. Once the swelling calms down the soft tissue should heal in place and I should be ready for my connectors, which I will receive at my next appointment in two weeks.

We have been completely blessed with help the last 2 weeks. From childcare, meals, treats, items from my wishlist, cleaning, laundry and so much more. We couldn’t do this without our village. Thank you to everyone who have helped us in some way. Your support, contributions and prayers mean more to us than you’ll ever understand.💕

Today I finally got up, and out of bed. It is SO nice to see something other than the same 4 walls.

🌟 Week One Update 🌟

It’s been one week since surgery. I’m no longer in constant pain, which is amazing. My legs are sore and stiff, but it really only hurt after I’m sitting in the same position for a while.

I have home health coming to help with bandage changes and manage my medications. I start OT & PT this week as well.

We got home late Sunday evening, transferring to and from the truck has been the hardest thing I’ve accomplished, but I did it.

I am so happy to be home with my boys. And we are so incredibly thank for our families, friends and community.

My littlest snuggle bug has a hard time with not being able for me to hold him, so today we pushed that boundary for a some cuddles. We both needed it.

I am home from hospital, I got home last evening.

Transferring and positioning myself have been a little harder than I have expected. But no where as bad as when I came home last year.

Thank you to everyone who has helped this past week keep our lives as normal as possible. The boys are very happy to have their Momma home again.

I should be up for visitors later in the week, and my friends are one again starting a meal train. If you are interested in helping in any way please us know. We greatly appreciate any and all help. Thank you all for being a part of this life changing journey with me.

A Meal Train page is active for The Eckenrode Family. MealTrain.com simplifies the process of giving and receiving meals and more.

Thank you to everyone who has checked in, offered encouragement and kept me in your thoughts and prayers.

I am having a really hard time with pain management. I have tried an epidural, and unfortunately that gave me a debilitating migraine to the point where I couldn’t keep my eyes open. They have turned off the epidural and the headache has eased up, but now the leg pain is unbearable. I am working with pain management to try to get this pain under control.

I was able to meet with pt/ot yesterday and moved from the bed to the chair without assistance. But with today’s pain I wasn’t able to meet with them, I also need a blood transfusion today. Praying that tomorrow my pain will be managed better and can do more PT.

I will try to post more updates when I’m feeling better!

4 and a half hours later, Devon is out of surgery. I was able to speak with the doctor and everything went as planned. Devon will provide a more detailed update in the coming days when she’s ready!

It’s surgery day! I’m currently waiting to be wheeled back to the OR.

As I prepare to head back into surgery for my procedure, I'm asking for your prayers. Please pray for wisdom and steady hands for my surgical team, for a safe and successful surgery, and for a smooth recovery in the days ahead.

I'm grateful for every prayer, kind thought, and word of encouragement. Thank you all for supporting me through this journey.

My husband, Chris, will post updates later!

The wait is finally over! After what feels like forever, I officially have my osseointegration surgery date, July 7th! I'm excited, grateful, and ready for this next chapter. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. The countdown begins now! 💙
