Charles "Chuck" Walter Kische of Yreka, CA passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at the age of 87.

Charles was born June 2, 1939 in New London, WI to Walter and Norma Kische. Charles enjoyed a wonderful childhood in Wisconsin and would often tell stories of the escapades he had with his brother Tom, sister Sue and cousin Mike.

The family moved in the 50's to Leona Valley, CA where Charles attended school. He married his high school sweetheart Shirley Brown and they had two children, Connie and David. Charles worked with contractors and developed the trade of painting. Charles was a quick learner and hard worker and soon was in demand and able to take advantage of the building boom in Southern California. Charles and Shirley divorced but remained good friends.

In the 1970's Charles visited a friend in Yreka and liked the area so much he decided to move his family there. He acquired his painting contractor's license and developed a reputation for quality work.

Charles met and married Elaine Dorrell Adams. They had a daughter Kindell. After a work related injury which left him partially paralyzed, Charles acquired rental properties to supplement his income.

Charles loved building houses and purchased 5 acres and built a house for his family just outside of town. He planted several trees on the property and the rest of his life enjoyed riding his tractor and lawn mower on his five acres and watching his trees grow. He loved to fish and spent many...

Beloved Scott Valley veterinarian Harold Arthur “Art “Spencer, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on July 9, 2026. Art was born on October 28, 1939, in Whittier, California, to Harold F. and Pauline E. (Terpstra) Spencer.

He attended and graduated elementary and high schools in Whittier. In his senior year, Art was voted president of the Whittier Cardinal Band and selected to be the Drum Major. That year the band was honored to march in the Rose Parade.

Art, his brother John and sister, Florance, excelled in performance horse competitions, receiving many awards. Art enrolled at University of California, Davis, majoring in Animal Husbandry. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1962, whereupon he was accepted as a Veterinarian Doctorate candidate at the University of California School of Veterinary Medicine, Davis. Art received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1966. While in high school, he met his first wife, Carole Ann Compton and they married in 1962. They were blessed with two children, John Scott, JulieAnn, and later adopted Kathleen (Kathi) Elizabeth.

Art began his veterinarian career at Watsonville Veterinary Clinic and later at Beck & Cook's Modesto Veterinary Clinic.

Marjorie Eleanore Rugg (Kinkead) was born June 18, 1930, in Yreka, California.

Her birth mother, Margaret A. Pope, died soon after giving birth to Marjorie. She lived with her grandparents, Newton and Phoebe Kinkead, until 1935, when her Father, Seymour Kinkead, and his wife, Ruby May, took her back to live with them in Montague. She completed Grammar School in Montague before riding the bus to Yreka High School. She graduated from Yreka High in 1948 and immediately started working for Bank of America as a stenographer. While working there, she met and eventually married Bud D. Rugg, who owned the Richfield Service Station in Yreka. In 1955, she left Bank of America to work as the bookkeeper for Bud’s Richfield Station, and two years later, she gave birth to her only son, Lloyd D. Rugg. In 1960, she reignited her faith, attending Sunday morning services in Montague, before going with her Aunt Esther Fischer to gospel meetings. Marjorie was baptized in Prairie Creek at the Orick Convention in 1962. In 1970, she and Bud opened Shasta Valley Tire Service in Montague, where she continued to manage the books for the business, even after Bud passed in 1998. Her half-brother, Richard Kinkead, passed away a year later. After her son Lloyd’s untimely passing in 2013, Marjorie diligently maintained the books for the business until the Rugg family sold it later that year.
