Xiaomi Launches Its First AI Glasses Called, Well, Xiaomi AI Glasses

Xiaomi has almost every aspect of our daily living covered. From phones to home appliances to healthcare, it has it all—but surprisingly, smart glasses weren’t part of the picture. Until now. During the keynote, where it dropped the MIX Flip 2 and the new YU7 SUV, the tech giant also revealed its first smart eyewear: the Xiaomi AI Glasses.

And no, these aren’t just smart glasses—they’re “AI” glasses, because that’s the buzzword du jour. They may look like a normal pair of specs (in black, brown, or green), but under the hood, they’re a full-on gadget. You get a 12 MP Sony camera on your face that can record 2K video, take first-person photos, and even livestream whatever mischief you’re up to.

There’s no screen, no weird tapping at your temple—instead, it’s all voice-controlled through Xiaomi’s Super XiaoAi assistant. You can control your smart home, scan QR codes for payments, get real-time translations in ten languages, and even have your meetings summarized through the app. Basically, it’s like having a secretary quietly living in your eyewear.

Audio is handled by dual speakers and five microphones—yes, five—including bone conduction and wind-noise reduction, so you can whisper sweet nothings to your toaster or whatever else you’ve hooked into Xiaomi’s ecosystem

The 263 mAh battery offers up to 8.6 hours of use and charges via USB-C in under an hour. And if you spring for the electrochromic lenses, you can change tint on demand, which is about as cool as wearable tech gets without entering cyberpunk cosplay territory.

Prices start at around 1,999 yuan [CH] (about US$270) in China, and while global release plans remain hazy, this could be the smartest thing Xiaomi has put on your face yet.

This image demonstrates a modern “Power Map & Visual Fields” design used in premium progressive lenses. It visually represents how lens power gradually changes from the top of the lens to the bottom, creating smooth transitions between viewing distances.

Understanding the Lens Zones

Distance Zone (Top Portion)

Driving
Watching TV
Outdoor activities
Classroom or presentations

This area provides the widest and clearest distance field with minimal blur.

Intermediate Zone (Middle Corridor)

Computer work
Cooking
Dashboard viewing
Conversations

This region is often called the “optical corridor” because it smoothly connects distance and near vision.

Near Zone (Lower Portion)

Reading
Mobile phone use
Fine detail work
Sewing or paperwork

The bottom section provides additional plus power for near tasks.

What Does the Color Map Mean?

Blue = Distance power
Green/Yellow = Intermediate transition
Red = Maximum near addition power

Unlike bifocals, progressive lenses have NO visible line. The power changes progressively and continuously across the lens surface.

Why Lens Personalization Matters

Modern premium progressive lenses are customized according to:

Pupillary distance (PD)
Fitting height
Frame shape and tilt
Vertex distance
Facial anatomy
Reading habits
Occupational needs

Benefits include:

Wider visual fields
Faster adaptation
Better peripheral clarity
Reduced swim effect
More natural binocular vision

Common Adaptation Complaints

Some first-time wearers may experience:

Peripheral distortion
Difficulty using stairs
Head movement adjustment
Mild dizziness initially

Most patients adapt within days to weeks when the fitting is accurate.

Advancement in Progressive Lens Technology

Earlier generations had:

Narrow viewing corridors
Higher unwanted astigmatism
More peripheral blur

Modern digital freeform lenses now provide:

Ultra-wide visual fields
Customized optics for each eye
Enhanced contrast sensitivity
Better night driving performance
Reduced peripheral distortion
Faster adaptation
Wavefront-guided optimization

Some advanced systems even use:

Artificial intelligence-assisted optimization
Eye movement tracking
Lifestyle-based lens algorithms
Dynamic binocular balancing
Personalized binocular calculations

Progressive lenses are no longer just multifocal glasses — they are precision-engineered visual systems designed around the individual wearer.

Clinical Pearl:

Even the best progressive lens can fail if centration and fitting are inaccurate. Proper dispensing is just as important as lens technology.
