The Ischiofemoral Ligament

Big word. Simple concept. Let's break it down πŸ‘‡

Your hip joint is essentially a ball sitting inside a socket. To keep that ball from popping out every time you move, your body has a system of strong fibres called ligaments that wrap around the joint like a seatbelt.

The ischiofemoral ligament is one of them.

To put it more plainly:

🦴 The ischium is part of your pelvis, think of it as the bone you sit on.
πŸ”΅ The acetabulum is the socket part of your hip joint, the "cup" that holds the ball of your thigh bone.
πŸ’ͺ This ligament runs from the back of that cup and wraps around the joint capsule - the tough sleeve of tissue that surrounds and protects your entire hip joint.

Its job?
To prevent your hip from over-rotating and to keep everything stable when you move, walk, or twist.
It's one of three main ligaments holding your hip together and when it's damaged, you know about it. πŸ™

πŸ’¬ Did you know your hip had its own built-in seatbelt?

🚫 MYTH: Running destroys your knees.

βœ… FACT:
Research shows recreational running does not increase the risk of knee arthritis and may actually keep joints healthier.

Studies have found that recreational runners have lower rates of knee arthritis than sedentary individuals. Running strengthens the muscles around the knee, supports cartilage health, and helps maintain a healthy weight, all of which protect the joint long term.

The key word is recreational. Overtraining and ignoring pain are where problems start. But running itself? Your knees can handle it. πŸ™

🚫 MYTH:
Knee arthroscopy is a major surgery with a long recovery.

βœ… FACT:
It's minimally invasive and most patients are back on their feet within days.

Arthroscopy uses a small camera inserted through tiny incisions to diagnose and treat problems inside the knee, including meniscus tears, cartilage damage, and loose bodies.

Less trauma. Less pain. Faster recovery.
Most patients go home the same day. πŸ™

🧘 Pilates & Joint Stability | Part 1 of 2

If you've been told to strengthen the muscles around your hips or knees - Pilates might be one of the best things you can add to your routine.

Unlike high-impact exercise, Pilates focuses on controlled, low-impact movement that targets the deep stabilising muscles critical for protecting your joints.

Here's what it does πŸ‘‡

πŸ”Ή Strengthens the core:
reducing load on your hips and knees with every step
πŸ”Ή Activates the glutes:
weak glutes are a leading contributor to knee pain
πŸ”Ή Improves proprioception:
better balance, lower risk of falls and injury

Whether you're recovering from surgery, managing arthritis, or protecting your joints long term, Pilates is worth considering. πŸ™
